Two years on and my OH is still very pleased with the mini iPad.  The new minis also look nice, albeit expensive.

Yeah, I'm no Apple fanboi but tablets are the one device type that I'm unlikely to stray from buying from Apple. I'm just not sure I'd be comfortable paying those prices for a Mini - the cheapest is $849 (new iPad starts at $569), but if the price is not a concern and small form factor was critical then I'd bite the bullet...  It's a bit wider than the Nexus (135mm vs 114mm), if that affects pocketability (but the screen's a decent-sized larger - 8.3" vs 7").

Yeah the Mini specs look great. Price isn't the biggest factor. I think size and longevity is. I got the Nexus when it was released and it was highly specced for the time. And it's still going. Unlike other iPads we have at home that can only use Safari and that's about it.

From another perspective, my son's still using our first iPad purchased back the same year (Dec 2013); it's certainly not the fastest but it still runs a wide range of apps including Minecraft etc. I can't think of too many other devices we were using eight years ago that are still going!

After getting an iPad Pro from work I do find my standard iPad (about two years old?) slow and clunky by comparison, so would feel pretty comfortable buying the new Mini if I was planning on keeping it for a while (given its new processor etc).

I just found, the ipad mini 2 my wife is using, I bought it in 2014....and it's still quite usable for youtube and ebooks....I'm not sure of many devices that run that long.

We bought an iPad mini in 2014 ... and it's still going strong .. just can't take any more o/s upgrades, but still great for browsing e-books (kindle) and libby (auckland library)

It has been so useful we bought a second iPad mini (5) a couple of years ago when we were looking for a tablet for e-books etc

so .. we're super happy
