No doubt Samsung does it to save money. But they need to improve their Exynos chips. Especially if you are going to have qualcomm model and a samsung made exynos chipset.

Because it is IRL people see a difference. Its not just synthetic benchmarks. Its battery life, game FPS, video frame rates, thermal engineering (exynos runs hot) etc.

The difference is generally up to 25% better on Qualcomm.

So I dont think people are complaining just for the sake of synthetic bench marks. In some instances the differences are small like 13% in battery life IRW testing, slight differences in camera (much better this year imo), gaming definitely and for some who can pick up on it, video, not to mention the Exynos is noticeably hotter under semi prolonged use. Add it all up and its not actually that minor an IRL gripe. But what can we do, its clear Samsung wont spend the money to give europe and our tiny market equal phones, so one can either import or one can hope Samsung improves exynos dramatically.

However, one thing I have noticed this year IMHO the camera difference is MUCH less noticeable than the s10.

I think this is a pretty good run down on why things are different, what is different, IRL differences and why the images look different (although to be honest I dont see as big a difference this year)

Hi guys,

I am a bit stumped while doing a bit of research on deciding between the SD or Exynos version of the S20U.

I am on Vodafone and as far as I know the 5G deployed on Vodafone is sub6 NSA 3.5GHz frequency band (please correct me if I am wrong here)

The Samsung NZ website states the 5G band supported on the Exynos is:

5G FDD Sub6: N1(2100), N3(1800), N5(850), N7(2600), N8(900), N28(700)
5G TDD Sub6: N40(2300), N77(3700), N78(3500)

From this list only N78 matches the 3.5GHz but based on TDD?

Does this mean the 3.5GHz on Vodafone 5G is deployed on TDD initially and is likely to change later on down the track when 5G becomes more prevalent in NZ?

I thought all NZ mobile network frequencies are on FDD only?

The 5G spec I have been able to find for the SM-G9880 (SD version) also only supports TDD N78.

Band designation is based on both frequency and duplex mode.

Have a look through the list of NR bands: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5G_NR_frequency_bands

There are other TDD bands in use in NZ, e.g. LTE band 40.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G I purchased from PB Tech misses Calls intermittently at the same location, at home, with SIM1 in use and no eSIM assigned, while Bluetooth is on and on WiF6 with bundled Asus RT AX-3000 Router after period of inactivity, even though provider SPARK New Zealand does not use Wi-Fi calling. Suspect power save mode of WiFi6 and Samsung Firmware integration. Have tried Safe mode, Network Reset, Clear of Cache Partition. Factory Reset does not help. Appears to be a firmware problem occurring with a lot of phones around the world. Others that have had phones replaced say that this does not help.

Original Spark SIM card was used in S7 edge with no problem with missed calls. Spark has replaced SIM new SIM works on S7 edge with no missed calls as well. Missed calls only occurs on S20 Ultra 5G.

Inbound missed Calls only appear in call log 5-30 minutes after the call was made, when the text message comes through indicating voicemail has been received.

Do not disturb is not on, and the ringer volume is set to high.

I've had similar issues since day one with missing calls and txt messages. It's not carrier or sim specific it's a handset issue and samsung forums have a thread about this issue https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Galaxy-S20/S20-Ultra-not-receiving-calls/td-p/1190155

I have vodafone for calls and txt (sim1) and spark for data (sim2). Have tried all sorts swapping sim locations, resetting network settings. Nothing has helped. Works ok for a day or so after restart then is unreliable again.

There seems to be a major fault with this phone. Please get in touch with Samsung NZ 0800 726-768 and tell them about the problem. The more that do the more likely a fix will come. My case has been escalated to tier 2, so at least it's past the script monkeys and might get some proper attention.

I initially thought it was a dual sim problem, but it appears it's a more general issue. I've found toggling flight mode on then off again will result in the missing txt messages all arriving at once.

For a 2 grand phone I am seriously unimpressed something as simple as receiving calls and txt is flaky as. To make it worse I'm an emergency contact for my elderly mum with high care needs and have regularly missed calls from her. I simply non longer trust this phone and if samsung teir 2 support do not come up with something concrete in short order I'l be seeking a refund.

@martin-NZ Samsung's NZ Phone is 0800 726 786. I gave them a call and they suggest I use chat support. So having already tried that I have now sent them a formal e-mail, with difficulty because the phone model number SM-G988B/DS was not supported on their email contact page.

@IvanPiacun This is a long shot but worth a test and make sure the handset is not trying to log onto a 5G network in test

I used samsungs chat today as well and it was an exercise in frustration. But I did get the impression it wasn't the first time they have seen this issue reported

I have the same model and had the same problem locating it in their dropdown list of models. It wasn't there.

This is a long shot but worth a test and make sure the handset is not trying to log onto a 5G network in test

I believe @linux is suggesting it as something to try, not a permanent solution.

@Martin_NZ Some 5G networks are in test at the moment and not actually live so the handset might be trying to camp onto the 5G test network,

This happened during the 4G test / launch and caused a few issue and actually happened in the South Island when SparkNZ was testing 5G and did not have the config correct and VodafoneNZ handset were camping onto the network and not rejecting the attach

So it's a very valid test

I do understand that, but end of the day I shouldn't have to troubleshoot a faulty product under warranty.

It's a 2 grand phone that doesn't phone.

It's faulty. I want it replaced not "assessed" and sent back 3 weeks later with "no fault found".

And if the replacement does the same I'll be wanting a refund.
