I have given up on htcsense.com and I'm using wavesecure now. It works using text messages so your phone can have data disabled and still be able to control it. And most importantly it seems to be reliable. Only disadvantage I've found is that it can't normally turn on gps remotely ; but if you root and install it as a system app it can do that.

Which is strange as I have several non-root Apps which can turn on gps eg extended controls.

I did the update then did the swype 1.6 unistall then the latest swype beta install, all working fine. I have not rooted my phone.
The swype beta FAQ page solves alot of issues, incl losing the trail etc.
HTC sense.com is broken for anyone who didn't register an account early, mine has never worked, imagine it will take some time over the holidays.

Hey guys, I really cannot stand HTC Desire HD's factory keyboard. It's just not as easy to type as my previous forbidden fruit:) Any recommendations in terms of a better keyboard app? Thanks.

I'm always either using swiftkey or the default froyo keyboard. Can't stand the gingerbread keyboard and I'm a lot quicker with a normal keyboard than using swype

nocturnal05: i did the ota update last night and since then it's been doing a couple of weird things.

the second one is with txts. when i get a txt and open it by just going through "Messages", the message icon in the notification bar doesn't disappear. i have to go in the notification bar and tap the actual message notification form there to get rid of it.

anyone had similar issues after the update? or any other issues?

I have the same notification issue but its easy to get into the habit of always opening from the notification bar. Doing it that way removes both notifications.

Everything else is just fine.

Shortly after the OTA update though I started experiencing major drops in battery performance. I wasn't getting through a day without charging twice. I couldn't be 100% certain if the update caused it though as I'd had some weird battery issues two weeks before this & the battery wasn't holding its charge as it should after that (I don't think the phone liked being out in sub-zero temperatures - it refused to turn on at -10C).

I followed HTC's instructions on xda and battery use has settled down again.

I am currently running an experiment to test the various things that cause my battery to run down. With normal use, but only using WiFi and data as needed (ie. not enabled all the time), & 2G unless 3G is needed, I am currently at 53% charge left at 2 days 23 hours 22 minutes. Awake time has only been just over 6 hours though so I'm going to have to do a load more testing before any of this means anything. I *think* battery performance has improved with 2.2.1 but will only know once I repeat everything I did when I first got the phone.

yeah it's not really a major anymore. it was just at the beginning as usual after you get used to one thing then have to change that.

i have noticed, however, that the battery seems to have improved and also the CPU isn't maxing out as much as it did before, which i'm sure contributes to the better battery performance.

overall, i'm pleased after day 2 of having the OTA :)

Since I did the 2.2.1 update my htc clock widget keeps thinking I am in the location where I did the update, despite having current location selected in the settings. It briefly goes to my current location when it updates then stubbornly goes back to the original update location. I have reloaded htc locations and cleared the cache but to no avail. Any suggestions?

The conversation about the long wait for the DHD from Clove etc. seems to have died down a bit but for those thinking of ordering, I have some thoughts from a mate who ordered a DHD from Clove, recorded here for posterity as much as anything else:

"Never put a business name!

If held for customs/duty on NZ post website do the following ? do not wait for your letter in the mail

Call 0800501501 (push option 3 ) give the international number you were using on the NZ Post site. Get a NZ tracking number

Call 0800478287 (I pushed 1 on the option list ) ask for your notice numbe ? keep as a reference. They then do up an ?entry number? and this is for the next step

Then ring customs 0800 388 437 (answered by a real human on first ring!) to give your entry number and pay GST by Visa or Mastercard. GST is on goods + shipping + $38.07 processing fee.

Goods should then be released into NZ postal system (customs electronically informs NZ Post)"

Hmm, I didn't have any problems having my phones from Clove (Desire and DZ) shipped to work, although it was , , send via royal post.

Hey guys, do any of you find the camera quite shaky? I have used quite a few camera phones over the years and this is by far the shakiest. A slight minor movement blurs out the photo. I have all the default settings.

What are your experiences?

I don't find it any shakier than any other phone camera or small digital camera. One thing I did find though was that the default settings aren't good enough. Even just changing Contrast, Sharpness & Saturation makes a huge difference. This camera can output some amazing images & its worth adjusting the settings to get the kind of photographs you want.

Really? I am surprised you don't find the camera to be extra sensitive to movement. I googled since my post and found similar experiences. What is a little frustrating is the lack of a dedicated camera button, or an app that allows you to press anywhere on the screen to take a shot.

Your suggestions would be welcomed!!

I just played with settings and haven't had any problems since. I had a car crash into me a few years ago, damaging my spine. One of the results is that my hands tremble all the time. Initially, I had loads of blurry pix on the DHD but found it really paid off to adjust the settings. The guide is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875230
