Shrapnel: Hey there, Sorry to butt into this thread, but I've been trying to update My Telecom SGS to 2.2 from 2.1. I've tried the patch solution set to TNZ which I know other have had success with but it did not make a difference(had false success when I didn't change the patcher to my phone version hence updating my phone with the same firmware it had) . My current firmware version is JL1. If anyone has any ideas on getting this phone to update it would be great, I don't want to root or flash anything though :), just officially update it. I have been using the?latest version of Kies.

I had used the Kies Reg Patch and it had worked for me but to be honest have heard from other people it is not working anymore. Sorry If the Reg patch has not worked, don't know what will work. Also there was some kind of?maintainance release from Telecom sometime back not sure if that can do some help. Also a bit cofused why you have JL1, if I remember correctly mine was JP1 before the Froyo upgrade...

Yeah, I don't miss it. Sadly, if you want to do things the "proper" way, you're stuck with that fickle piece of software.

Hopefully someone will have an answer or solution for you. It's a bit quiet here at the moment. Either people have a really bad hangover, or they're on holiday, perhaps even having a life way from the computer. But NEVER away from their phone

Nice they have a Captivate kitchen too, woo hoo.I've only ever flashed variants of Setiron's kernel so will read up on the glitterballs and hardcore kernels to get an idea of what they're all about.

Would you be surprised if I said "ME"?? Yes, Me!? Wasn't a problem at all.? Selected everything using the phone's browser, it downloaded directly to my /sdcard/download folder.? I moved the zip file.? Went into recovery and flashed the sucker.? Rebooted, then flashed my UOT battery mod.? All done without any fuss.

Sounds great. Did you disable any existing lag fix before flashing? Did you also flash to stock? I'm going to cook a few variants tonight including one of each of the available kernels, then run the Roms for a few days to compare. I take it this is what youre going to do? :-)

Nah, just cooked a non-wipe and flashed straight away. I didn't have any lag fix. Don't feel the phone needs it :) Happy with the result, don't have any reason to make a change unless there's something new offered in the kitchen :-D

And yes, if you've got a lag fix it's recommended to disable it before flashing a new rom.

I've found a dark wallpaper really does make a significant difference in battery life. Any one else agree? Only started doing this in the last few days.

Also.. does anyone think the usb connection on the phone is a bit flimsy? I like the solidity of a mini usb connection.. That's just me anyway..

Have just switched to a dark wallpaper now, will see how it does. Must admit it took a bit of time for me to get used to switching wifi on/off as I needed it. Too used to leaving it on all the time, but it absolutely sucks my battery dry at the moment. My room only gets one bar of signal from the router so that could have something to do with it. I've noticed a massive difference in battery life with it off though. Went from 100% to flat overnight to waking up with 80-85% left, gigantic improvement.

Has anyone experimented with the different kernels available from the ROM kitchen? Pretty keen to give some of the others a go, been using Supercurios voodoo kernel for a while now. Hopefully it'll be quiet tomorrow and I'll get a chance to do some fiddling.

Finally got my battery life back with doc's latest rom and hardcore's 12h. Been going two days now and still got 20% left. Last kernel drained 40% overnight.

I'm running stock JPY and usually getting 2.5 days battery life without a problem once I set wifi to sleep mode.

@Neets what kernel are you using these days? I'm using Hardcore's K12H 500hz and was wondering if an OC/UV voltage was worth trying. I haven't tried out a rom from the new romkitchen, might wait till themes become available.

First do not connect ur mobile to ur computer and do not open Kies - THEN

Look for "regedit" under run and open Registry editor

Then Under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Samsung \ kies \ DeviceDB if you see any folders which are numbers (i.e. i.e. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. and so on) delete all off them

After that Open Kies and connect ur samsung phone, and when ur phone is found, disconnect the phone and close the program & unplug the phone.

Run the exe 1.6 reg patcher, u can downloaded from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835628

Set the patch to True and the Spoof code to TNZ it should auto fill other option automatically and click write Registry
Then connect ur phone to Kies and click firmware update/upgrade, and it should show u something as below:

Model Name: GT-I9000T
Current Version: PDA:JJ1 / PHONE:JI1 / CSC:JI1
Latest Version : PDA:JP2 / PHONE:JP1 / CSC:JP2

I taught Telecom did relase a maintaince release but maybe you are not getting it since u r on JL1... not sure how u mange to get that frimware as it was JI1... confused... but all the best and let me know how it goes... HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU>>

I've never had a light wallpaper yet so don't know what it does to battery life. I find the browser too glarey so I can't imagine a lighter wallpaper.

I don't have a problem with the USB connection. But then I'm not sure I understand what you mean as you go on to talk about the mini USB. I thought there was only one USB connection but your description makes it sound like there's two. Am I missing out on something, or just being ditzy?

The wifi fix is in the ROM itself. Doc confirmed the base rom had the fix. So I don't believe there's really any preference now over which kernel provides the best battery drain. Tricky has written a guide on the Doc thread explaining the different kernels to help make it easier for people to decide what suits them. I think Doc put a link to the guide on the first posts, and it's also in Tricky's signature.
