has he fixed speedial entry? my speed dial does not remember my entry once rebooted ... (aka crashed - just realised overclocking caused all my crashes - no more freezing since i cancelled overclock)

and darn facebook wakelocking like mad

No speedial fix. I don't even use it so had to load some entries up to test it. :) All the entries I loaded disappeared when I rebooted the phone. I don't even know if Indie is aware of this bug but will report it for you.

That just put paid to me installing Omega this weekend. Speed Dial is pretty essential. Will wait until this is ironed out I think.

Also, is it worth forcing the XEU CSC when I install ICS? Currently my Telecom i9100T is ODK, running DlevROM2 3.1

I'm very happy with Omega V8 (after just 1 day, now V9's out!).

Smooth and apart from heavy battery loss during the first 12 hours, since then it's been as good as I ever got on 2.3 ROMs.

One thing that might be worse, or maybe it's completely unrelated: Firefox 10.0.3. If I just press Home or Back to get out of it, it'll stay consuming CPU, ranging 5% to 40%. If I deliberately Quit it, it dies properly, but don't want to have to do that. I generally really like Firefox on my desktop and enjoy syncing tabs & bookmarks to my mobile. But not happy with this battery drain.

hey thanks for reporting. just no time to be XDA member...

i've since found out that speedial never stores at all. once you go out of dialer it's gone!!!

could it be related to
makeSimDBService wakelock? pretty significant wakelock which google seems to think it's related to contacts. perhaps dialer not talking to contacts or contacts is broken (which explains why names don't pop up when you dial a number)

perhaps all related

Hi I have an unrooted phone and going to root using the directions in Brendans FAQ (very helpful, many thanks), I have one question; should I have USB debugging enabled, disabled or it doesn't matter?

Mine is enabled. If you're using Titanium Backup then you'll need it enabled. Some custom ROMs also have it set as enabled by default. It wont hurt if it's enabled anyway.

Mine is enabled. If you're using Titanium Backup then you'll need it enabled. Some custom ROMs also have it set as enabled by default. It wont hurt if it's enabled anyway.

So I'm thinking of flash an ICS based rom on my S2 (currently on stock non-rooted 2.3.4, some 2degrees variant it seems), and just wanting to make sure I've got things straight.

The process seems easy enough, but I've been reading through Brendan's guide, which talks about backing up the EFS.

What would be the recommended route for upgrading to ICS?

1. Root GB (via CF-Root, I'm assuming that CF-Root 5.4 is fine for GB too)
2. Backup EFS, do a nandroid backup of GB
3. Flash an ICS rom

or

just flash an ICS rom, root (if the rom is not already rooted) & backup EFS.

And if I've read things right, unrooting is just a matter of flashing a stock rom/non-rooted kernal? Although I can't seem to find this 2degrees variant of 2.3.4 in the xda thread (XWKI5, but from what I can tell XWKI4 would suffice?).

XWKI4 is a modem not a kernel. Make sure you use the CF-Root related to the version of software you are running now, then just install a ROM, do you want a stock ICS ROM or a Samsung ICS ROM?

XWKI4 is the whole firmware though, right? Not just the modem?

Yea sorry the KI1 is your Modem and the XXKI4 is the software, kernel is not in that info so if you are on XWKI4 you are going to want this one:

CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_KI4-v4.4-CWM4.zip

With ROMs, an AOSP ICS ROM or Non Samsung ROM will essentially just give you a Galaxy Nexus with a better camera. Ive put to gether a nice little CM9 ROM to fit us in NZ better if you want it, otherwise just flash the stock CM9 (latest nightly) woould be my recommendation. << This is not going to change your modem so dont worry about it

Just flash the CF-Root kernel as above then flash the ROM and Gapps

OR

The other way you could go is first before even rooting it, flash the latest stock ICS ROM from Samsung like in THIS GUDIE That will give you the ICS bootloader and update your modem all at the same time, from there find the next CF-Root kernel and THEN install the CM9 ROM. I would recommend this way over the first option, just makes for a cleaner move to ICS

Another quick thing... I bought the Genuine Samsung 2000mAh battery kit the other day, really worth it if you dont have it, ive used my phone heaps today nearly 3 hours of screen time and im at 57% now after 11h 25mins

I thought you'd moved on from the SGS2 and were looking at the Lumia 800, then selling that to get the HTC One X. I can't keep up :)

There will be a post on the 2000mAh batter on the AndroidNZ website soon. It's a great improvement that's for sure.

hahaha this is my 3rd (maybe 4th) sgs2, cant keep up myself, decided against the One X because of the teething issues... will probably get the SGS3 when it comes which should be pretty soon
