Hahaha well... The first one i bricked trying to boot an HTC Sense ROM (was actually pretty close) so thats gone burger, Second one i sold to get something else, cant remember what then i regretted it and bought another, then done the same thing again lol. Its an addiction... im sure my wife is going to stab me one day lol. must be Expert Infotechs best customer lol, spent at least $13,000 or $14,000 since i started buying smart phones. No im not rich lol

I remember buying my first HTC HD2 off them lol, that was the business

CdTDroiD: Yea sorry the KI1 is your Modem and the XXKI4 is the software, kernel is not in that info so if you are on XWKI4 you are going to want this one:

CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_KI4-v4.4-CWM4.zip

With ROMs, an AOSP ICS ROM or Non Samsung ROM will essentially just give you a Galaxy Nexus with a better camera. Ive put to gether a nice little CM9 ROM to fit us in NZ better if you want it, otherwise just flash the stock CM9 (latest nightly) woould be my recommendation. << This is not going to change your modem so dont worry about it

Just flash the CF-Root kernel as above then flash the ROM and Gapps

I would recommend a slightly different kernel: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXA_LA4-v5.0-CWM5.zip

This kernel comes with a newer version of ClockworkMod recovery, which is the bit that you use to install custom roms. I don't know if there are any major differences between CWM4 and CWM5, but it's better to have the new version in case a rom needs one of the new bits.

You don't have to exactly match the kernel to the rom you're using, you only have to match the kernel family to the rom family. For example, if you want to use a Samsung-based ICS rom (e.g. Samsung stock, Omega, WanamLite) you need a kernel based on Samsung's ICS source (e.g. CF-Root ICS, Siyah 3.0, NEAK 2.x). If you want to run an AOSP/AOKP (open-source) rom, you'll need to use the kernel that comes with the rom, a kernel that's built to support the open-source rom, or something like Siyah that supports both open-source and Samsung.

Most ROM packages come with their own kernel, so you don't need to have the right one before you flash. If you want to use one of your choosing, you'll need to flash it after flashing the rom.

haha thanks man, probably will compile my own ICS soon, ill upload my version of CM9 soon for you guys, its just optimized for NZ alot and fixed GPS etc, things like that, still mostly just CM9 but more stable. I haven't had any issues at all yet, runs much better than the Galaxy Nexus i had

Sounds great! Had your Fluxmod has my daily driver when trying ICS for the first time.. Always a great relief to load my nandroid backup!

This one works awesome, give it a go and see what you think. Plus i dont have the time at the mo to compile and make my own ROM, so i just wanted something personalized to NZ and myself. Works well

Don't worry, I'm not that stupid!

It's the latest of Chainfire's modified GB kernels, based on a 2.3.6 rom that was released this year. (see the XDA post)

All of the ICS kernels have __LP_ in the version number, although we're probably due to see __LQ_ kernels soon.

Is there much point in a Samsung ICS ROM compared to Omega/Wanamlite/CM9 (although I suppose they are somewhat derived from the Samsung ROM's anyway).

OR

The other way you could go is first before even rooting it, flash the latest stock ICS ROM from Samsung like in THIS GUDIE That will give you the ICS bootloader and update your modem all at the same time, from there find the next CF-Root kernel and THEN install the CM9 ROM. I would recommend this way over the first option, just makes for a cleaner move to ICS

The last option will result in a flash counter being added that will count up the number of times you use odin for anything, complicating any warranty claims.

You would then have to flash the older bootloader in order to use a jig to reset it.

It'd be simpler to just install a custom rom from xda over GB anyway, which have already dealt with that issue.

No, I don't think it would brick it (if it was an ICS kernel). He will still have access to cwm and download mode. It just won't boot into android until he has a ics rom to go with it.

Can someone define Wipe for me. These are the install instructions for Wanamlite.

How to install :

Copy my rom to internal sdcard
BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP
If you came from a Gingerbread or AOSP Rom or if you use Stock Email, you MUST WIPE your data
Flash my rom from Recovery
Reboot & enjoy, let the phone to boot up, at least 5 minutes to let media scanner finish.

I did a wipe/factory reset then install this. First time it was pretty screwed up and freezing all the time. Second time it locks up 3 or 4 times a day but otherwise runs well.

I am not sure I am doing it right. Can some tell me exactly which option to pick in CWM to prep my phone for the new rom.
