Oh, and went to Wikipedia to see if JJ is really gone - yes :( My hubby does alright, after all, he's got me to tell him what to do, when to do it, and how it should be done Poor Mr Neets.

By the time I catch up on my Criminal Minds backlog its going to be a surprise anyway, I'm over a season behind.

Back on topic I moved to a Doc ROM last week (9.1.4) and haven't had any problems so far (as evidenced by my lack of questions). Very easy once I managed to get the phone rooted - having previously upgraded to Froyo via KIES (yes, some of us did use it in the past) I was having issues with most of the market 1-click rooting apps. All in the past now.

Aye aye captain I think I have found me rom! :D Absolutely fantastic is what I have to say, very smooth. Although Mr. Quadranto does not agree with 1000ish scores. But who cares! ;P

Ill give some more in depth thoughts tomorrow, haven't had much time test yet. At this stage though I will be staying put in the Doc Island area, very plentiful speed and good waters for sailing :)

Ok enough with the pirate....

Hey there fellow flashers...

I have been following this thread off and on for quite some time and I thought that it was time to add my voice to the many pages of questions and really helpful answers.

So it's a big "HI" going out to everyone involved in creating such a positive thread. You have made me smile many times.

I am using a ROM from Doc & Stefunel's kitchen XWJS3 v9.1.4 and am loving the stability, performance and battery life. I have experimented with a couple of modems recently in particular the JPY and DXJPB - I'm with Vodafone. Judging by the comments and signatures on this forum the JPY modem is very well proven for many people and I have found it very good. I do however find that the DXJPB modem gives me better reception where I live in Christchurch, and I was wondering if anyone else has given this modem a try and what your impressions of it are?

Maybe I'm just suffering from the placebo effect that afflicts many of us with OCFD (Obsessive Compulsive Flashing Disorder).

good stuff mate let us know your ongoing thoughts - hows GPS lock speed, wifi performance, call quality, battery life?

with 1000ish quadrant scores i assume you have not used any lagfixes yes? what kernel did you choose? and what modem did you decide on? :)

Interesting that JPB gives better reception. Not sure if I tried that. Ever since going to JS3 my wifi reception drops out. This is around 15m from the router. Because of it I'm seriously considering going back to JPY. Seems naff to have to connect to mobile data from my bedroom just so I can keep up to date on what's going on in the world when I wake.

with 1000ish quadrant scores i assume you have not used any lagfixes yes? what kernel did you choose? and what modem did you decide on? :)

OK, so here's what I'm running:
SpeedMod K12R 500HZ with no Lagfixes
DocRom V9.1.4 XWJS3
JL2 Modem
R64 Fresh White theme
Default Galaxys Boot screen
TNZ CSC

Gps is working with 10-15 seconds locks
Wifi is fine except for the fact it's scan interval is very short, like 5 seconds so this leads to the battery decreasing quicker. I don't know if this is a bug but some other people in this thread are run Docs so maybe they can fill me in ;)
SMS and Calls working straight away, all apns included but haven't tested MMS yet. Can't really comment on call quality either as I only rang *333 which sounds bad anyway. Boot times are good but I think darky's rom had the edge here.

There's my wrap up so far.

After reading your post I decided to do some comparisons between the 2 modems with regards to wifi reception.

My wireless router is set to support b/g/n and is broadcasting on channel 9.
I used Wifi Analyser from the market to observe the signal strength of my network.

My observation was that I was gaining 5db of signal strength while using the DXJPB modem. This gain seemed to be consistant whether I near or far from the router.

Interestingly my phone rang while I was playing human aerial with the DXJPB modem and I was able to talk on the phone in an area of my house that is not usually viable with other modems.

Conclusion:
Give a try, you can always revert back.

I see that Doc's beta kitchen lets you generate an update.zip file with modems.

Here are links to the 2 modem files that I use, there were both generated in Doc & Stefunels kitchen. These files are to be flashed from recovery mode using Clockwork Mod.

I'd get Titanium Backup to make a copy of all your apps - I personally don't think Nandroid/CWM backups are all that useful; if you're moving to a different base ROM it's possibly safer to just restore apps+data.

YMMV as always. . . .

I normally do a factory reset(unless its a no wipe rom and you want to keep apps), dalvik cache wipe and cache partition wipe right before flashing. If you do flash the one you cooked up can you tell me is the wifi continuously scans? :)

So in the wifi menu where you select a network it comes up with "scanning" with a loading circle half way down the page on top of the selectable wifi netowrks. Don't worry about it if you don't understand, I make it sound confusing
