Geektastic: If only you could choose operating systems and phones independently.

I’d love a Fold running iOS.

It would need to be “iOS for foldables”. There is just enough optimisation in One UI for foldables to be noticeable. Particularly in the “Labs” section.

Without re-litigating any Android vs iOS discussion, unless you are sitting completely within the walled garden, there is very little difference in usability these days (This as I use an Android phone (Fold3), an iPad and a Windows desktop).

I’m in both camps.

Fridge, washing machine, tumble drier and TV all Samsung.

Desktop and wife’s phone all Apple!

I think the biggest inconvenience would be losing FaceTime and iMessage communication with my wife and calendar syncing gets a bit more complex.

A question for the users/pending users of the Fold.

What's the use case that convinced you to buy it?

I'm due for a new device .... I've had a play with the Fold4 ... it's undoubtedly cool .... but I need a nudge to tip me over the edge to shell out the dosh

I think the flip is a gimmick as your not really gaining much.

Apart from my work laptop, I bearly use a PC these days unless it's for work and don't want the hassle of carrying a separate tablet, so the bigger screen is just nicer for doing non work related stuff online.

Assuming the durability holds up for 2 solid years of daily use, I don't think I'd ever go back to a traditional slab phone

I used to carry my phone and an iPad for personal use when away for work. I got tired of carrying both around so was able to combine the two into just taking my Fold3 away with me. I bought the Samsung S-Pen case but have taken the S-Pen holder off it and put it in the container I have for chargers etc while on the road.

I find the Fold a good size to watch videos on or read a book while on flights without having to have the tray table down. I also found it good for navigation in my previous car because of the size of the map when opened.

Edit: It is heavy in your pocket though.

mahdibassam:

Got a pre-order in from Noel Leeming for 2749. Free watch 5 44mm, Buds pro and 100 off. Really nice.

Good deal. Doesn’t seem to be available now other than via Samsung direct.

I tried to trade in my iPhone 13 PM (to see what it would offer me) and the app that Samsung make you download to assess your existing phone informed me that my phone wasn’t eligible for trade in!

Yet on Samsung’s site it suggested the phone was eligible. Strange.

My Fold4 arrived yesterday.  Definitely feels different in the hand, and even from a "quality" perspective it feels more premium than the 3.  The front is totally more useable than before, even though it's only a few mm wider.

I ended up going for the flip 4 (from flip 3 -> fold 3).
I find the flip a lot better for runs and the gym.

I got a very good deal on it. I have access to the partner website via work and they seem to have forgotten to disable the preorder codes they emailed out for their standard store. Ordered last Friday order processed Monday (and codes were disabled after mine was processed)

So all up I got a flip4, case and the new buds2 pro for partners price -$150 in preorder codes (saved between 600 - 700)

I'm just waiting for my Samsung points from this order (30 day wait) and should be able to get the watch5 pro lte for 45% off.

I escalated my trade in issue with Samsung today to see if that would get any further.

Once again I can highly recommend the Spigen Thin Fit P case for the Fold4. It's slightly different sizing to the Fold3 as you'd expect. It's the only one with an integrated S Pen holder on the side instead of the back, at least that I've found to be useful. Not an expensive case and available at PB

I popped in to a store today to see the Fold 4 irl.

It’s really nice. I love the narrower width for one handed use: much more comfortable than my 13PM.

Build quality was great.

Noel Leeming offered free earbuds and watch (not pro watch though) and Spark offered $450 off and $250 off the Pro watch plus interest free on both.

I’m weighing up the pros and cons of moving from Apple when my wife uses iPhone and my main computer is a Mac (and never likely to be anything else).

I am lusting after the Fold handset though. Much nicer than the iPhone.

Anyone take the leap and trade in their S22 Ultra for Fold 4?

bought the 512gb model last friday.    i love it.

ordered a case off aliexpress, hopefully nothing happens before that arrives.

great for reading comics.   really good size for applications aswell, tweaking my personal apps to work well on the slim front screen and fold screen.

pity that if you switch launchers the bottom taskbar disappears.  i personally like the microsoft launcher, but that taskbar is too useful to switch.

was going to trade in my note 20 ultra, but thought it would be a pita and would need time to transfer things over.  just trying to sell that on TM atm (silly me didnt think to post on GZ first...)

You lose a bit of the Fold specific OneUI features if you change launcher from what I understand.  Taskbar is one example.

Just my experience with the ZFold 4 from yesterday, I bought it interest free with Vodafone, came with free Watch 5 44mm, Galaxy Buds Pro and 350 off over the interest free term. I had it for about 18 hours and I returned it. I feel it was a downgrade from the S22 Ultra, although its more refined then previous gens, for me personally I cant see it being a daily driver, hated to part from it in the short time we had but ya still loving my S22 Ultra.

I have the S22 Ultra and the Z Fold4 (and previously Fold3).  I find myself using the Fold much more often than the S22 since I got it, but they do different things really well, so its less about it being an upgrade or downgrade for me, and more about them just being right or wrong devices for different people depending on what they need from their device.
