I occasionally charge my HD2 with the spare that I got from Harvey Norman (came with a car charger), works fine. Go the EU and forcing standards on companies for the consumer good!

Wow, I just went to Clove, and that price really cannot be beaten! I'll most probably order one from them!

Just a few questions. Do you guys know if this is the fully unlocked version (and not one branded by T-Mobile UK etc.)?

I ordered mine from Clove a couple of weeks ago. It's my first order from them and I'm 99.9% sure it's a fully unlocked phone (that's what it says on their site).

The NZD/GBP exchange rate is great at the moment and when you order from UK sites like clove and Amazon they knock off the VAT. It's a great time to import things like the HTC Desire :-) Compare the price of the Desire to the price of an iphone 3gs in NZ and it's a no brainer :-)

I was playing around with their shipping options, and it comes to around $760NZD incl. shipping via DHL :)

Just pre-ordered mine from Clove. According to the exchange rate as of now at xe.com, mine will come to $790NZD incl. DHL courier :)

Stock is due to be released on the 7th April, which I'm assuming will be the 8th for us in Kiwiland :D Counting down the days!! Not long now!!

I believe it's quite normal for that to happen, if the item is being shipped outside of the country of origin, the purchase price will be less the local VAT. Which means you'll have to pay NZ GST upon the item being picked up by customs.

Can someone confirm that this is correct?

Yes....because they (usually) collect if it is $50 or more. Bear that in mind if this government increases the rate of GST.

Also, the GST is levied not just on the price of the goods, but also the shipping charges as they also represent a "good or service" being consumed in New Zealand.

I used to import running shoes as the quality and selection in my size (US 14) was crap for a long time....and they wanted NZ$300 for shoes I knew to be much cheaper.

I once tried to import several pair at once...and paid GST on the lot - including the shipping.

It proved to be much cheaper to have them send US Post one pair at a time. They took two weeks to arrive, but the postage was less than US$10 / pair...and the cost of the shoes themselves never attracted GST.....and I saved about NZ$100 / pair.

Anyone from Dunedin thinking of ordering one from Clove (or has?) Would like some advice on what to do about the DC charger...

While the EVO looks tempting, I'm thinking that holding out for that isn't really worth while at this point as (and correct me someone if I'm wrong) but a lot of its cost will be tied up in its 4G capabilities which we won't be able to exploit yet on our networks. So looks like the Desire may be the right time to go Android - fed up waiting for VP and XT to do anything helpful in that department.
