meeekael: How slow are we talking about here?

What conditions? Inside or outside?

Gave up after 10min, inside the house.

Testing GPS indoors is not ideal. However I did try mine out tonight with ZSJPG Rom and modem and got a 9 satellite lock in <10 secs after turning GPS off and back on again.

i get about the same performance using GPS Test, on the UGJL2 modem, indoors on couch next to a window, about 9satellites <10sec, fluctuatiing around 12+ satellites after a while.

out of curiosity (after reading this list of updated modems here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=876391) i decided to try the ZSJPG modem, given i am on XT and reliant on the 850mhz band, and surely a feb 2011 release would be better than a dec 2010 release).

but for some reason, after flashing JPG modem, my phone would only connect on WCDMA 2100, (telecoms backup inner city fill frequency) instead of 850mhz. 3g speed was noticibly slower and laggy to load pages etc. swapped back to JL2 and, back to normal.

anyone know if you need to screw around with phone service codes to "re-enable bands" when flashing new modems?? i thought the settings would be saved regardless of the software modem in use?

Antzzz: Was on FirstIn this morning at $549 (http://www.firstin.co.nz/products/samsung-galaxy-s-t959-4716/) - but must have sold out within milli-seconds of being listed - I went to the site just a minute or 2 after receiving the email with the deal and they were all gone!

Did anyone here manage to get one from them?

No front facing camera and no 900MHz UMTS band support on that T-Mobile Vibrant.
I can guarantee most of the people who hurried to buy them wouldn't be aware of what they aren't getting.

I hate how this always happens, I get a rom set up nicely then there's a new one! This time I wait.......maybe

Is anyone experiencing worse battery life on Ext4 than RFS, it might just be that conversion used a lot of unaccounted battery causing drain?

Seriously though, what's the hassle with changing ROMs?  Even doing a full wipe, getting everything back is such a doddle - imagine the hassle of doing 5 or 6 rebuils a year on your home PC. . . .Android is infintely mre straight-forward.  I'd guesstimate that I'd be back using my phone in less that an hour after a new flash.

Are you running all the conversions, or just the data+dbdata (i.e. not system)

Yeah, I suppose your right, I didn't buy TB just for fun.

Both my system and data+dbdata are lagixed to ext4(Speedmod predet settings so safemount)

Yeah I only ever use safemount options as well; have you enabled the Speedmod tweaks?  Just converted my /system to EXT4 and it used 3% battery.

Yep, recommended tweaks are enabled

Hmm, I think I might just do a batt recalibration, if it doesn't change anything I'll convert back to RFS to see if it makes a difference. The drain doesn't happen in idle but only when your using it it'll have a constant drain no matter what. But otherwise Ext4 seems pretty swell.

Just bear in mind that your usage stats can take a while to recalibrate after a flash - sometimes several battery cycles; I usually give it a week of regular usage before worrying about usage - but yeah, wiping battery stats after the usual rundown/charge malarky might be a good idea.

Let us know how you get on.

I'm still away on holiday, so won't be flashing anything until next week!!

FWIW, i researched the DamianGTO Ultimate kernel to try to understand the hype... and there didnt seem to be much to it. i know speedmod recommends ext4 as safe option because it maintains journals so if you have a powercut miduse (battery ripped out etc) you dont corrupt things. but i believe his kernel uses EXT2 which is non-journal and thus faster as its not writing as much everytime.

i emulated this in speedmod by setting filesystem to ext2 for DATA, CACHE and DBDATA, as well as the three _LOOP ones as well, and left the BIND to FALSE - this emulated the settings in the Ultimate kernel

also enabled all the recommended speedmod tweaks.

reboot and test, all is going well, for a couple of weeks now - i have hard-rebooted midboot and also done a battery pull midboot, with no problems. it is dead fast, and Quadrant sits on or exceeds 2000+

so anyway, thats my experience if it helps anyone contemplating lagfix settings, phone is like a rocket and still maintaining my 40hr average life between charges

i also spent some time testing the ZSJPG modem which is newer than the JL2 modem by 2 and a half months, assuming it may be better. turns out, the process to get it working is quite finnicky, requiring a 'staggered' flash of various modems before getting it to work on 850mhz xt band, and when it finally worked, performance was actually slower than JL2. everything just took longer to buffer and load, websites, images, etc. back to JL2 and things are nice and snappy again. so anyway, for XT users, it would seem JL2 is still the best modem.
