nzgman: so what are all the recommended speedmod tweaks?

in the speedmod options from CWM recovery menu, there are a bunch of items you can enable/disable. i forget the names of them, but if you pop into that menu you will see them. the ones marked (R) are recommended, then there are (O)ptional ones, and others that arent recommended.

what i meant above is that i enabled all the (R)ecommended tweaks :) theres 3 of them in the k13c kernel.

I really wish some of the new roms had better performing web browsers. I seriously feel like Eclair had a faster browser. Can someone try running Sunspider 0.91 on the JS8 rom?

ive never used the android browser... used Opera Mini for ages, and recently upgraded to Opera Mobile 10.1 - renders fast, has that "thumbnail shortcuts" launch page, pinch to zoom, works great... and i find it pretty fast? i compared it against Dolphin and found it to be faster to use.

is Opera no good as an option?

ok, didnt know what sunspider was but figured it out. the phone was surprisingly slow compared to my laptop here at work, which is a POS lenovo.

heres the comparison of the two - FROM is the laptop, TO is the results from Opera on the GalaxyS

how do these results compare to what you get? is it wildly slow?? looks like it to me....

ok re-ran the benchmark couple more times in opera, still sat on 11900ms

ran on stock browser, 5600ms

lol. i dont get it. opera feels just as fast and much easier to use???

FWIW, i researched the DamianGTO Ultimate kernel to try to understand the hype... and there didnt seem to be much to it. i know speedmod recommends ext4 as safe option because it maintains journals so if you have a powercut miduse (battery ripped out etc) you dont corrupt things. but i believe his kernel uses EXT2 which is non-journal and thus faster as its not writing as much everytime.

i emulated this in speedmod by setting filesystem to ext2 for DATA, CACHE and DBDATA, as well as the three _LOOP ones as well, and left the BIND to FALSE - this emulated the settings in the Ultimate kernel

also enabled all the recommended speedmod tweaks.

reboot and test, all is going well, for a couple of weeks now - i have hard-rebooted midboot and also done a battery pull midboot, with no problems. it is dead fast, and Quadrant sits on or exceeds 2000+

so anyway, thats my experience if it helps anyone contemplating lagfix settings, phone is like a rocket and still maintaining my 40hr average life between charges

i also spent some time testing the ZSJPG modem which is newer than the JL2 modem by 2 and a half months, assuming it may be better. turns out, the process to get it working is quite finnicky, requiring a 'staggered' flash of various modems before getting it to work on 850mhz xt band, and when it finally worked, performance was actually slower than JL2. everything just took longer to buffer and load, websites, images, etc. back to JL2 and things are nice and snappy again. so anyway, for XT users, it would seem JL2 is still the best modem.

Hmm, interesting stuff. I have been reading up on it, mainly concerned about the OneNand and MoviNand life, but apparently they both have wear levelling so It shouldn't be a problem until many years away(thoughts on this?). I might give that ext2 a try if the battery improves(or move back to rfs, I mean it's not that bad), less read and write plus less cpu usage is appealing, ext4 is being used as standard in GB though so it must be reasonable.

Sunspider on JS8 for me = 7500ms ish

On my desktop it = 300ms :P

The android browser has always done the job fine for me, it takes it's time rendering on heavy pages but I don't really care

I find it to be too slow for my liking, not just in the loading but the scrolling around on image intensive sites. I think I'm going to flash JS8 and see if it's any better than JPG

btw JS8 appears to have a better browser, got 5800ms on sunspider down from 6400 on JPG

Changed dbdata, data and cache to ext2, it is extremely fast and so far very light on battery. I did a battery pull while doing some stuff and it started up again; fine and dandy. For now system remains rfs, its pretty fast anyway.

I confess, I lag fixed yesterday. System and whatnot to Ext4. The push was Tweetdeck for Android was sticking and after several weeks of it I decided to see if a lag fix would improve things.

The phone doesn't feel any faster. Tweetdeck doesn't seem overly improved but I've not had the same use overnight to normal ;-) Should figure that over the next couple of days.

I think it's more mind of a matter for me, it's the head. I know I have a lagfix on so it just feels fast;even if it's not any better than rfs. Maybe Im going crazy ;)
