Has anyone had the issue of the phone shutting down randomly on low battery? Had this happen 3 times in the last week, when it went to about 17% battery. Other times it goes past 17% as normal.

(Issue described at XDA: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/nexus-6p-randomly-shutting-50-youre-t3522911)

It did shut down once before around 50% back in January, while outside in -15 degrees C in the US. But this is the first time it is happening at normal temperatures.

Other notes:

  • Accubattery says the battery health is at 79%.
  • Running 7.1.2 on the Android Beta program.
  • Bought it in December 2015, from Noel Leeming.

Mine usually seems to shut down somewhere between 5 and 10%, but it seems to do that fairly constantly. The battery certainly isn't what it was back in 2015. I had a similar problem with my Nexus 5 that seemed to get sorted when it upgraded to Marshmallow and I factory reset it, but that was around the time I got the N6P, so I never really got to put it through its paces. I think the N6P just needs a factory reset and reinstall everything, but it's such a big excercise for the few months before I look for something new. My phone also occasionally reboots itself for no apparent reason, but it's very infrequent, so I've never really got too worried about it.

Indeed.
This happened to me a few times.
Once in exactly the same circumstances, cold weather and 50% to nothIng in seconds.

I noticed that issue mostly happens during high cpu usage, things like taking pics amd gaming.
Cold temps seem to play a part too.
But 15% charge and an attempt at a couple of panorama pics in Auckland during summer will do it too

Battery health says its at 90%

yes, happens to me very often, to the point I feel either my battery or phone is faulty.

If I play pokemon go or do anything that drains battery, the phone quite often shut down when battery level is 30-35%.

If i let it idle, then it can go down to around 10% then shut down itself.

Yep, happens to me every time. It either shuts down as soon as battery saver is triggered at 15%, or simply by dropping below 20%.

It's a known issue which it is unknown whether Google is actually able or willing to fix.

It's very annoying, as you can imagine

Has anyone tried to get the battery issue fixed under warranty?

I'd look at possible upgrades, but there's nothing appealing so far. The 6P still has great front and back cameras, and good speakers.

Android 7.1.2 update now available (I'm downloading right now)

Hey All, Today, and over the next few weeks, we will begin the rollout of Android 7.1.2 to Pixel and Pixel XL devices. This update contains a number of bug fixes, added features, and general performance/stability improvements. A few changes and updates that we want to highlight are listed.

  • Improved fingerprint swipe performance
  • Bluetooth connectivity improvements
  • Battery usage alerts

Some of the other fixes are with the early shutdown issue, a fix for the small number of users experiencing pink banding on the camera, and a fix to the audio popping issue some users were experiencing at high volumes.

Maybe it'll fix the early shutdown issue?

I have updated and if anything the shutdown problem is worse.

Seems to happen between 30 and 50%.

Hi,

My problem is with "Google Assistant"

Since the last update (as i have noticed) Google assistant does not recognize my voice. even if i start over with setup it never respond to my "OK Google" command.

Does not matter how loud i shout with the phone 1" closer to me, still no respond.

Anyone else having this problem ?

My "OK Google" works fine. Though I have only used it to set alarms.

Here is some screen shots of my battery status screen after my phone shuts down.

last week I noticed it was at 32% so I took a screen shot then opened an app and it shut off instantly.

One thing I have noticed is that every time it shuts down the battery "line" is dead flat for awhile then it just drops to 0.

Well than guess its just me.. might give a restart and delete some activity, hope that works.

Also about the battery. i used to have that problem but with an update few months back, it fixed it.

or

may be at the same time i deleted some apps & games from my phone. possible that might have affected it.

Even with 1% battery my phone is well and good.

@killerhulk does it take three thread posts to tell us your microphone is not working? Have you tried rebooting?

Yes my battery is still horrible after the latest update.

Shut down randomly when battery is below 40% (usually around 30-35%) if i run any app that is power hungry.

Horrible horrible.
