16:10 would equate to 8:5... that would be a wacky screen size haha

My desktop monitor is 16:10. It doesn't seem to be "wacky"... (1920x1200)

The only reason 16:9 is seen to be 'normal' is because it's the de facto video proportions for WS TV and therefore a video 'standard' aspect ratio as was 4:3 in its day. I suspect that it's use in phones is a convenience rather than a must.

just tried the subway app today .. barcode scanned and i got a 51c credit :)

technology at its core working for my core :)

i must admit i was thinking i am charging it a lot .. but then i am using it so much more
than the #phone 3G i had .. once novelty period wears off I am sure battery will come back
into line

By default the Sensation has some settings turned on that are not optimal for battery, especially the HTC Sense sync in Accounts and Settings.

Further to the power consumption on Sensation, as lokhor mentioned there's a lot you can do to extend your battery life, like using 3G when needed and having it turned off when not needed. In fact, 3G seems to be the main culprit as far as power drain goes with this phone. The figures below show the current state of my battery:

1 day, 6hours, and 5 minutes with 27% charge remaining. At that rate, it's going to run flat at around 36hours.

So there's nothing inherently power-guzzling about the device, even with its larger display, more pixels to push, LCD backlight to drive, dual core 1.2GHz CPU and Sense's animations - all which are turned on - and live wallpaper active.

WiFi is also permanently on, as is the GPS radio. Interesting, huh?

There will be differences in the way I use the Sensation that will obviously give results that will in turn deliver different battery performance than another user, but potentially, this phone is capable of easily exceeding the magic "get through a whole day without charging" benchmark real-life use requires.

If you choose to use it with certain processes in a mode other than the phone's default setting, that is.

A caveat: I experienced the 2.3.3 bug recently. It's real and it's stunningly good at draining the battery. In my case, it appears to have been triggered by 3G being apparently available as far as the radio and firmware were concerned, but in reality, the pre-pay SIM was at zero available balance which prevents the 3G connection completing. So the radio subsystem, kernel and OS were constantly attempting to connect, between them accounting for 80%+ of the phone's power usage.

You can imagine, I think, how great that drain must be when the display's use was less than 10% in comparison. The issue is fixed now and the results are as mentioned at the start of this post. *phew*

Sorry that this is so long, but I thought it important and wanted it to be clear.

I think I've been swayed and am now looking at different suppliers.

It was episodic rather than chronic in my case. I did a factory reset to attempt to cure what I thought was the Sensation having a faulty radio subsytem. As mentioned, it was the SIM having no available balance that prevented successful 3G connection, but it cured the bug! So if you should get it, try the factory reset routine. It absolutely worked for me.

Not sure if a reboot would fix it as Sense doesn't conpletely clear memory unless you shut down. Pulling the battery for the recommended 30 seconds (or two minutes to be AR/OCD-sure) will certainly be the best way to boot cleanly. You might want to do a search at XDA to see what they have to say about it though, as I'm a sample of one and there's likely to be other triggers.

2.3.4 doesn't suffer from the bug so it'll be moot when the update has taken place anyway. :-)

I'm not so sure about 2.3.4 not suffering from the Android OS Process drain bug. I am still having the problem on my SGS with a JVP 2.3.4 rom :(

I've tried doing factory reset several times to no avail. Perhaps it is because it is not a stock rom though.

Regarding battery life on the HTC Sensation: my experience has been similar to Artoo's, although I think I have suffered slightly due to not running out of credit.

As you know, my SGS battery performance experience has been consistently better than your own, regardless of the ROM we employed. So I'm inclined to the view that your particular situation/configuration is a more likely culprit for the drain you experience. Of course, that just my assumption, but one thing that is certain is that I haven't experienced any unexplained, extreme drain on my SGS, either before 2.3.4 or since.

However, having said that, if I'd stayed with 2.3.3, then I expect that I'd have experienced the bug by now. But my experience with 2.3.4 has been flawless and I've been using it long enough now to feel confident that it will continue that way.

I promise though that if I do experience the bug on 2.3.4, I will report it just as I did here re 2.3.3. It's stuff we need to know in order to improve the Android experience. :-)

I don't know if the models you guys are testing is different, but in mine it has Wcdma only, GSM only, and WCDMA/GSM Auto. Am I right then in assuming the GSM is the 3G, and I should change it to WCDMA only?

I purchased mine through Electron World.. excellent service, I'd recommend them! But of course they supply the Vodafone / 2degree version, not the XT version. So up to you which network you want to go on, as to where you want to get it from really.

'WCDMA only' should prevent the phone from running the GSM radio on XT (which apparently doesn't have the band). On VF or 2D, 'auto' is probably your best bet. You can turn your 3G off via the quick settings option of your notifications drop-down.

I set my Sensation to "WCDMA only" on XT.

They don't have anything else.
