I'm having a multitude of issues with Simply Honey 3.6 and the 3.6.1 update. Thinking it might be better to go back to Juwe's rom

fallen: I have tried a few custom gingerbread roms (darky 10.1, Juwe 4.3.1 and Simply Honey 3.5).
Currently using deodexed stock JVH with a custom theme and dark core 2.5. In my experience I haven't noticed any real improvements the custom roms have over deodexed stock JVH.

Hard to say from my point-of-view, as I've only just gone to GB as per my sig below. With all due respect to the other ROM cooks, I don't think any of them delve as deep into the code as Doc does (did?).

I'm pretty impressed so far though, so it will interesting to see how the various approaches develop over time. My phone seems very smooth, browsing is so much nicer than 2.2. Battery life doesn't seem as good, but this will probably catch up with kernel development too.

Part of the problem is the current lack of source code for the GB kernel.

It might be worth doing a full wipe by flashing ficeto's rom with pit etc and then flash 3.6 from there?

to get a clean flash I usually just use a stock JVO rom with Odin. I've managed to get Simply Honey 3.6.1 working after a bit of a mission. Part of the problem is that he has so much crap in the system partition that Swype won't fit until you remove some of it using Titanium Backup, the other half was issues with Speedmod not restoring correctly after the EXT4 conversion.

As someone reading this thread waiting for the telecom update I have to wonder at why people seem to spend so much time flashing their phones and fixing the subsequent issues? It seems a lot of work chopping and changing for what seems to be little improvement if no one seems to be content that they change so often? Mine does everything it is meant to, and most of it very well, and sure i am looking forward to seeing what the upgrade brings but well just have to wait. Reminds me a bit of linux users who bag windows then spend all their time trying to get programs to work.

So I am guessing it is just for fun?

Yeah that is a real downside with SH ROMs - I really miss the modular nature of romkitchen - when I checked /system I only around 11Mb free - have managed to ge around 20Mb back now.

I managed to miss the md5 error thing with Speedmod, as byt the time I'd re-flashed the latest version, the problem had been fixed. . . .although as others have said, the importance of EXT4 is becoming less and less.

I'd be curious to know what modem vodafone/2d users are finding best on GB - I'm tempted to flash back to BUJV9 to see if I can get a bit more battery life?

I haven't seen this discussed, but I've found that the touch screen on my SGS is less sensitive on GB than it was on Froyo. Not necessarily a bad thing, as it happens, as I used to get a fair number of accidental press events and the change of sensitivity has meant that happens less now.

I'm curious as to whether or not others have noticed this, and if so, is it restricted to the ROM I'm using or if it's universal. Feel free to chime in with your experience.

My wifi signal is being reported as being less than it was under Froyo and the GPS takes longer to lock now. No obvious difference in the signal strength of the cell signal though. Battery life looks to be worse, possibly about two thirds of my previous testing.

Lastly, I find that swiping the lock screen sometimes leaves the screen black except for the launch bar, something that requires a press or drag on the screen to rectify.

Other than that, the phone is a pleasure to use. And I guess I'll be moving to a modded GB ROM in the near future so the preceding will probably be moot.

I have found the touch screen response to be the same as Froyo. I am using the latest Vodafone modem (JV3 for the JV9 firmware): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1086311

The GPS is fast and wifi is no different to Froyo. One thing that I think might be a GB is that it does take a while for wifi to reconnect when the screen is on, I have set the wifi policy to turn off when the screen is off. Battery life is generally around 45-50 hrs with moderate use.

Regarding touchscreen sensitivity I have not really noticed anything but others on XDA have noticed a decrease when going to Froyo from Eclair see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844216

As everyone knows I have never had very great battery life for whatever reason but Gingerbread has not really changed anything for me. I manage to get to bed time by using JuiceDefender to schedule data but have to charge nightly. I have had some weird issues with bookmarks disappearing and having to re-add LauncherPro Widgets on Simply Honey 3.6.1 but unsure if this is a rom issue or what.

I have definitely been tempted to go back to JS8 or even the newer JSD build of Froyo but I think I have an OCF (Obsessive Compulsive Flashing) Disorder.

3.6 was not a good choice, all the bug reports on the thread confirmed as much - he let that one slip i think

i stay away from all new releases until the early adopters post up good results first...

of course - the same as modifying cars, or having the absolute newest gadget or gizmo - none of it is 'necessary' - its only for fun, exploration and learning.

this is a forum for discussion, and as with anything, forums like these capture 90% of the cases that DIDNT work. for every complaint you see on here there are probably a 1000 successful upgrades where a comment was not necessary :)

having just a base rom that just works without anything fancy or custom, is the same as having a stock standard car that does everything as intended from factory, no better, no worse. nothing wrong with that at all! but it just might be viewed as dull to some :)

Also might be worth noting that there are very stable froyo roms. some of us just like experimenting with gingerbread.

I have to say, after two days of use, 3.6 is faultless for me - damn quick and smooth, and no lag - although to be fair i don't have a heap of apps on my phone.
