CWM, root and flashing 2.3.4 went smoothly. Nicely done dude.

A couple of issues for the peeps contemplating the flash...

Swype won't install. Doesn't recognise the phone as an Android. (Not to do with browser identifying as mobile or desktop).

The keyboard won't appear for the input panel when attempting to post on Geekzone. Haven't tried anywhere else but I suspect it'll be an issue.

Will add issues as I find 'em.

Galaxy S has gone to its new owner. HTC Sensation has gone to its new
owner. Galaxy S3 has gone to its new owner. Now using Galaxy Note 3. Skipping Note 4 I think...

A question for any Sensation users on Vodafone's network.

I discovered today that even when I am in a clear line of sight no more than 50-80 metres from the antennae, I have no 3G coverage at all on my Sensation. I was told that I should get 3G in areas where Voda has 2100MHz coverage, and this morning I was right in the middle of that zone here in Hastings, literally that close to the antennae. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try to see if I can fix this? I rang Vodafone and they were puzzled and suggested taking it into one of their dealers, which I will do, but I won't have a chance before Monday, so I thought I'd ask here first.

It's just stock Android 2.3.3, Sense 3.0, Software Nr 1.34.781.2 in case that helps.

is it the Telecom XT model? You may need the Vodafone APNs to connect on Vodafone.

Thanks for the super quick reply. Yes - it must be the XT model - I won it, and when it boots up, the XT splash screen comes up. Forgive my ignorance but what's involved in getting the Vodafone APNs?

Well you can find the APN details here: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=97&topicid=67440

You set this up by going to
Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Then press Menu and select New APN.

My partner is using the second HTC Sensation I won and using hers on 2Degrees no worries here in Lower Hutt.

I appreciate your patience, can I trouble you for a little more help. The APNs listed in that thread are as follows:

Name Vodafone NZ
apn www.vodafone.net.nz
Proxy -
port -
username -
password -
server -
mmsc null
mms proxy -
mms port -
mcc - 530
mnc -
apn type - default (type this in)

I take it that I leave them blank, or unchanged except where specified? Do I have to type in the "null" next to mmsc - as with the others, mine currently has "<not set>" while my "MNC" has "01"? Also, underneath "MMS port" and above "MCC - 530" I have "MMS protocol" - currently set to WAP 2.0. Do I leave that unchanged when setting both APNs?

Great, that's what I thought. Just out of an abundance of caution and to overcome extreme end user stupidity, that means I do NOT enter the "null" shown in the APN listings on that thread, just leave it as "<not set>"

Couldn't resolve the "This is not an Android phone" issue I was having with cdtDroid's 2.3.4 ROM, so I've factory reset and wiped etc and will try the newer 3.1 version. Not that I'm expecting 3.1 to fix it, but can't hurt to try.

Some online wisdom suggests I will probably have to flash the stock 2.3.3 ROM to solve this. Pity.

I'll update once flash is complete.

Updating to 3.1 has done the trick. Woohoo!!!

So I have Swype back and all's right with the world. :-)

Brilliant thread really helped me with my choice. I have just recieved my sensation and wow im completely loving it. Was using a iphone 3GS before this, android is incredible, glad i made the move.

My question is has anyone tried putting a higher rated mAH battery in there sensation. Apparently the Evo3D battery is the same shape and voltage, i have been looking on the net and found a 1900mAH battery and have been looking at buying one just for that extra bit of charge. What are your thoughts on this? have any of you put a higher rated mAH battery into your previous phones?
