I got rid of an Xiaomi because the fingerprint sensor was terrible, otherwise a good phone. A53 sensor also not great for me. Maybe it's just something about my fingers.

Pixel 4a rear dedicated sensor is perfect.

I had a Poco F3 and the fingerprint sensor on that was WITCHCRAFT good.

The sensor was the power button, it was almost instantaneous.

Bought my pixel 7 from Harvey Norman in Australia yesterday because my flatmate is visiting there this week so he will bring it home with him next week. Plus Harvey Norman are giving a $150aud gift card as a bonus too. Not quite sure what to do with the gift card, might try sell it on Gumtree I guess. Still, a nice perk!

Get an Aussie sim from a supporting Telco and activate it with some credit and test it with 5G etc in AU. Years ago there was a sim swap trick with iphone to enable blocked data. Long shot. Make sure roaming is enabled for the sim by the Telco.

Recenty my Pixel 4XL died with a main board failure. I contacted Google who extended the warranty to repair it and sent me Fedex labels.  Luckily I had a rel going to the US and they carried it over and posted it for me. The phone was repaired and sent to a friend who is over there. It works fine now so I gave it to him having bought a OnePlus 9 for myself.

Now turns out if I were to buy a Pixel 7 (or Pro) Google would offer me US$305 tradein on the phone :-( Guess I can't ask for it back now.

Let us know if there's any major issues with using it in NZ :D

How's the in-screen fingerprint sensor on the Pixel7? My wife has the S22 and it's ok, but not awesome. Hardware fingerprint readers are much easier / faster.

IIRC, based on what I've heard from some youtube review, it's on par with 6a which is better than the one one P6/P6P. I never had a P6/P6P, so I don't really know if that's true or not. Though I've also seen people complaining about it not working on the pixel subreddit.

I have a 6a and the fingerprint reader is trash; it got worse in the upgrade from Android 12 to 13 (I had the phone on 12 for all of three days before it upgraded)

90% of the time I need to enter my pin; bring back the rear mounted fingerprint sensor like on my 3a - it always worked (assuming my finger was dry)

Screen based fingerprint readers sound like something a marketing and finance department likes, I can't see the engineers suggesting them.

I am using my S20FE now as my iPhone was naff after the update. The in screen finger print sensor works flawlessly and fast.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

I used to think that until I got my S21. Now I think it's a perfectly valid way of doing it. I would never want to go back to other dedicated sensors which all had worse failure rates than the S21 screen.

Weird, I've had the 6 and now the 7 pro and can't really tell a massive improvement - in fact I've never really had issues when I had the 6 with the sensor compared to how many instances I've seen online of people complaining about it!

Too many factors to really isolate why - I tend to be pretty firm with my presses though, and during the setup I made sure I put my thumbs in as many weird angles as possible too lol.

I want a pixel phone for the live captioning and translation functions.

But can anyone confirm what doesn't work in NZ?

I really want the pixel 7 pro but...i just can't justify getting it without 5g and VoLTE calling. I really don't want the Iphone 14 either, all the news is pointing towards iphone 15 = usb-c (despite what MKBHD was saying).
