drjekyll: is swype a 'paid app'.. i can't find it when i go looking..

Its still in beta mode and not in the market. check out http://beta.swype.com/ but I think beta is closed. There are alternatives that do a similar thing just not as good, like slideIt.

I have Google nav/ the maps ap updated but how do i make it speak to tell me directions ( like.."take the next left" and die horribly in the congestion that is aucklands spaghetti junction ) It shows me the route but it aint speaking.

Also wanting to secure my apps and contacts on the sim card IF the thing gets lost or stolen..what aps do you guys use to lock the damn thing too??

Try Rockplayer for .avi.

For turn by turn have a look for Maps Brut, its a hacked maps app and it works fine.

I think this is the latest Maps (Brut) available. Works well for the price!

Urrgh yeah ..wot he said..I was getting quite excited reading all the updates on the changelog on that link...until i realised it had nothing to do with turn by turn nav

Cheers for the heads up. Just installed it. Looks promising! Finally an app that has been developed for Android from the ground up, and not some cheap port from iPhone and/or Symbian :)

Hi ALL
New to this but have a HTC Desire(which is probably the best phone I've owned) but seem to have alot of duplicate contacts. Not sure whether I should dump the exchange sync(outlook) and go to google.
If so whats the best way to get rid of all your duplicates as I cant seem to seperate google contacts from exchange ones on the phone.

People->Menu->View Tick only what you want to see (Sim, Exchange, Google). The other contacts are still there but won't show up in your contacts app (people)

Yes have done that but if I search when dialing numbers or sending txt still shows muliple options??
Do i need to delete all and then maybe sync with google??
