From a major retailer - she was reading the pricing straight off an email from vodafone. . . .

nofam: Vodafone plan prices for the SGS2 handset:

Handset only - $1199

Smart1 - $997

Smart2 - $697

Smart3 - $497

Smart4 - $197

Smart5 - $0

Hot off the press. . . .Smile

That's interesting. I was chatting to my 'contact' at VF today who wouldn't say anything other than "early June" which has very nearly expired. So the suggestion was that the 15th was the last possible date. There are internal comms about it now, so the 'secret' is obviously out. Amongst the staff, at least.

Thanks for your insider update nofam.

I'll be at my local VF on Tuesday in the hopes of a hands-on preview. This phone is garnering some serious attention from potential buyers. It takes a pretty spectacular piece of kit to lure people away from Apple and we're seeing that happening. For the first time, in my experience.

I'm hoping that I can deal to get a rather better price, but if not, I'll be buying from whomever locally will give me the best value. And that may well be a different handset.

We shall see.

Cheers,
R2D2.

You can't defect, I won't hear of you going to an inferior phone.

Yes Mummy. I promise to be good. :D

With quad band data being the new norm, the carriers are losing some of the clout they used to have, so a deal might well be available. One has one's hopes.

Time will tell.

You enjoying your snazzy new handset Ms Neets?

I bought an S II from clove.co.uk three weeks ago. 442 pounds, plus 22 pounds delivery overnight to my hotel in Sweden.

It's awesome.  The screen is just so clear and crisp. Every screen change is fast and smooth, especially photo gallery. Everyone comments on this aspect when they see it.

It's incredibly thin and light.  Smooth flowing touch, it's a real pleasure to use.

Only grumble so far is the microphone when on speaker mode on a cellular call is bad.  Everyone says, can't here you, you're breaking up.  Not sure if I'm holding it wrong or a software bug or inadequate hardware.  Picks up fine on non-speaker mode.

Saw them available in shops in Hong Kong on my way back for about HK 6,100 to HK 6,350.

David.

Went down to vodafone today, the distributers have received stock and vodafone has put in orders for them, so they're expecting Monday or tuesday. Unfortunately shipping doesn't happen on the weekends, but hopefully the orders will arrive Monday morning/afternoon. Got my name down for one!

Especially when you can downgrade your contract to Smart1 after 6 months. . .it's a bit of a no-brainer for those like myself who are looking to get on a plan. . . .Man, I'm so glad I didn't sign up a few months back when I was using a lot of data!

Just be mindful that you stand to lose your double minutes when you downgrade plan so going from smart2's current 120 double mins to smart1's 30mins could be a bit of a downer

You mean people actually make calls on their mobiles? Surprised

I probably make 2 calls a month to be honest - and that will probably decrease with using Skype

Epic. So most people are suggesting it will be here next week on the 15th? :)

@nofam, what do you suppose the data use is with skype? I've only just started using gtalk instead of text to friends overseas but presume skype will be fairly high on data use. Any idea?

Who can say?

There're a lot of hints floating about the place though. I don't get why VF get to be the official launch customer. This phone will be fine on all NZ networks. Maybe Johnr can chime in, but his terms of employment probably preclude any meaningful explanation.

I'm expecting the 15th, while hoping I'll be invited to a preview on the 14th for a hands-on.

I also expect to win Lotto some day.

Cheers,

I can tell you exactly actually. . . .I was in Auckland on business for 2 nights recently, and Skyped SWMBO both nights - from memory it was around around 30 minutes both nights, and it used about 48Mb. . . it was just under 50Mb anyways. . . . . .
