Have any black Ones been spotted in the wild?

Or am I farting against thunder expecting to see one in NZ in the very near future?

Very rare species at the moment. I wouldn't expect to see black for quite a few months in NZ.

kitinnz: Has anyone rooted yet? Theres a toolkit by Hansoon2000 on XDA that looks pretty simple.

Make sure you're aware of the issue with bootloader unlocking. I posted a couple of pages back about it.

tankzor: Has anyone ever tried one of those screen-protector-style-but-goes-over-the-back-too type coatings for their phone?
Impossible to get right? Look like crap?

Just bought 2x white cases + screen protectors from ebay for $9 O_o

Sorry, I got that a little wrong.

My friend lives in Taiwan, and after posting pictures of his new phone (way back in March) he posted he was doing this http://dacota.pixnet.net/blog/post/30524505 though never posted a pictures of his phone with it on.

Thanks :D

Guess it's the sides etc that get a bit fliddly / could look crap when you get it half a millimetre off.. Maybe I'll look at some youtube clips to get an idea of the end result.. Pics can be so misleading!

kiwiazonic: I paid $875 for my Telecom HTC One from Noel Leeming, but have to wait for it to arrive on Thursday or Friday.

Telecom Hastings said there is a delay because they are updating Android to 4.2, and adding their bloatware branding. Undecided

Vodafone Hastings has stock on hand, but they will not price match.
Vodafone have not contaminated the HTC One with bloatware, and have decided to leave it al-natural.

I got a message back from Telecom on twitter.
The joker from Hastings Telecom was wrong. The phone will be shipped with Android 4.1.2.

Yea I was about to say, HTC haven't released a version of Sense running 4.2 yet.

As far as "bloat", I don't even like splash screens or other branding anywhere on the phone. And I'd consider disabling 4G to be "bloat". Good for Vodafone for leaving the units alone.

Maybe you should buy a 2D version.  Besides how long is the splash screen visable.  About 2 seconds??

I quite like the TV control app. It was really easy to set up to control Samsung TV, Sony receiver and Sky(Pace) STB. No real control over Sky content apart from being able to change up or down one channel at a time. However it does mean picking up only one remote to turn everything on or off from one screen. I've put the app on the home page so it comes to hand quickly. Time will tell whether I use it regularly or not.

It's pity that it coes not integrate into an EPG for NZ. When setting up I saw all the main Australian cities have EPGs. Took a look at the guide for Canberra and, although we can't be sure about functionality, it looked fantastic.

Have a look at the TeeVoid app.

Thanks - looks interesting but if I understand it correctly, it's a read-only thing. The EPG in the TV app I referred to above appears to be integrated so that you can switch to a programme that is on air.

The SKY NZ app is perhaps better than TeeVoid because not only can you see what's on but also book programmes to record. Also TeeVoid does not show Sky content.

I added my sky (mysky HD) manually. It was a little fiddly to align the IR's, but probably only took 5 min for 30 functions. I have almost full control over sky with the phone now - channels, power, programme guide, record, back, play, pause, ff, rw etc

Oh man, sounds awesome. I can't wait to have my mitts on it tomorrow, or Friday - as long as it's before the weekend!

@kitinnz, I am curious to know if you can take a look at the top of your phone. Is the casing aligned properly, and do you see any gaps? You may know there's been alot of talk about build quality issues and gap-gate.

Well I hadn't noticed till you made me look!  There is ever so slightly more gap on the top of the phone compared to the side and bottom. Not wide enough for a fingernail... It's quite strange, it's pretty flush at either end of the top, but the middle bit looks like it's had a few extra microns shaved out of it. There's a (ever so slightly) noticeable step down and back up in the plastic part as you move along the top of the phone.  I'm pretty fussy with little imperfections and it's not enough to bother me.

The only noticeable thing that borders on annoying me is the top left of the screen, where it meets the metal is slightly lifted. Not enough to look at, but if you run your finger across the join you can feel it.

Keep in mind that I've found some tiny imperfection that annoys me on every phone I've owned. There's no question this is the best looking phone I've owned and the build quality looks excellent. Whether it stands the test of time is yet to be seen. Vodafone warranty for 2 years though, so that's a pretty good backstop!

Thanks for your feedback. What you've said pretty much is on par with others - the gap, and the metal being raised slightly over the screen.

Would love to see some photos of what you mean.

it's a bit of a hit and miss. Some have a massive gap at the top, some don't.
