DrD: Kies 1.5.3 now downloadable from Samsung NZ - download filename is Kies_1.5.3.10093_31_1.exe so it looks like the latest. 126MB

I've downloaded it, but I can't seem to run the set up. I get the following error message:
The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it.
C:\Windows\Installer\4514416.msi
Any suggestions?

I've solved a number of my problems today. The biggest mystery was AppBrain not synching with the phone. I found this information on Whirlpool's wiki.
I followed the steps, and while I was at it, I fixed my nv_data.bin file to change the KOR to OPS (my phone was originally an Australian Optus phone).
I also bought my first app. Pretty exciting (ok, ok, I know all you seasoned tech-y people don't know what all the fuss is about :P). And Root Explorer is a very nice and easy app to use. And you can easily put the directory into r/w. This is handy because JPK has changed the /system file to be read only. So no writing some line of code in ADB or Terminal Emulator to give you read/write access, just click a button to switch the directory into read/write.

I have downloaded the 1.5.3 version after many frustrations of trying to update the 1.5.1 version that came on cd with the phone. I am still experiencing problems with the new version. Kies suggests I need to download a few updates, but while after going for a couple of minutes tells me that I no longer have an internet connection. Frustrating
I am now trying to sync outlook contacts. When it gets to 100% a message comes up that says contacts will be synchronized with outlook. Does this mean it is still doing it and I need to wait? the only option is for me to push cancel.

Hey Snarse, DrD posted a link to get the download without doing the update via Kies. This might be more helpful than doing the d/l via Kies - which kept giving me that Internet not connected message too. It's very common so I understand.
So try this link posted a few comments above: http://nz.samsungmobile.com/support/softwaremanuals/software.do?phone_model=GT-I9000&sw_type=SW

No joy here either. I have a MainStage error which has stopped working and I have no option but to close the program.

The install worked fine for me.
When I installed the old version of Kies was removed - I then had to re-launch (as directed) to install it.
Working fine on Windows 7 64-bit.
You could try removing the old version of Kies
Delete any remaining files left over from the previous install
Then run the install.

It did the whole uninstall. Then I restarted the install again. I did get some error message (can't remember it, and ignored it). So it would seem whatever it was it probably caused the issue I'm having now when running Kies. So no Kies for me. I'll uninstall and reinstall again and take proper notice of the message. I'm on Vista Home Premium 32bit. I'll also install at work which is Win 7 64bit. So if it doesn't work at home, hopefully it'll work at work. Shhhh.

Now I can't uninstall it... it comes up with exactly the same error msg as it did when I was trying to install the new Kies. :\

Ok, so finally managed to uninstall the old version. I had to insert the cd to do it... How weird! What a sh*t software.
Another questions peeps. What's the best Facebook app out there? I've tried Facebook for Android and it blows, every time I get a notification it takes me to a full facebook website... Facebook for Samsung seemed ok, but I don't get notifications, at all! hahahaha...

Would be interesting to hear if there's a good FB app. I use TweetDeck for Android. I don't get notifications but that's OK. I don't enjoy the experience of using the full website for FB, and it doesn't behave nicely.
Now just uninstalling Kies to see if I can get it to install correctly.

I had already downloaded the 1.5.3 from the link. However it still suggests that there are updates to be downloaded. And the download falls over with " the internet is not connected". I am now just saying no to the do you want to update option.
My next goal is to Sync outlook calender and contacts. Both of which do not seem to work or crash mid way through.

After an unsuccessful install, I've uninstalled and now it wont re-install. I think you're one up on me at least ;-) I'll reboot the laptop tonight and give it another bash later.
