ZombieJohn: Ok so I just got a new sensation off one of my family members who didnt want it as they felt they needed an iphone.
I am going through the process of trying to install Icecream and I have an encountered a problem.
This is the guide I am using.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
STEP 2. To INSTALL Recovery - v5.0.0.8
1. Download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation HERE: or Multiupload
2. Copy the PG58IMG file into the Root folder of your SD card (The main Folder of your Memory Card)
3. Turn off your phone FUlly and reboot into the Bootloader/HBOOT screen (see post above on how to get to hboot screen)
4. Press Volume up to Accept when it asks" Do you want to start the update"
5. Press Power Off to Reboot back to android after installation is successful (normal screen with homescreen)
6. Delete PG58IMG from your memory card and you can now root using step 3 below or install a custom ROM using CWM (Customs Roms are already rooted)
I am at step 2.5 of this process and everything 'successfully updated' and I Power off to reboot back to android.
This is where my problem lies: It is now in a state of perpetual boot loop and I have no idea what to do!
Any advice?
I apologise for being a complete idiot with regards to this and if I am missing something obvious, forgive me.

What you want to do is go in to the boot loader not the actual system... turn off your device then hold down the Vol down button and power at the same time
(dont let go of the volume down button until it gets to a white screen)
Latham: @ZombieJohn: Just wondering why they thought they needed an iphone? What feature did they want in their phone that the Sensation didn't have?

So it shouldnt matter that it is in a loop?
It updated everything fine from the PG58IMG file and now it looks like this
\\\\\\
-Revolutionary-
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.1100
RADIO-11.22.3504.07_M
OpenADSP-v02.6.0.2226.00.0131
eMMC-boot

So everything updated successfully to the point where it says Update successful. I removed the PG58IMG and it is now in it has reached its state of perpetual booting.

Stick this file on your sd card http://www.4shared.com/zip/ej2NktyE/PG58IMG_2.html
then boot into the bootloader and let it do its magic...
you should now have 4ext Touch Recovery instead of Clock Work Mod Recovery then you should be able to boot any ics rom...
also you should download an ICS rom before trying to boot your HTC
because i dont think that your phone will boot if it still has GingerBread
ZombieJohn:
I am trying that now. Excuse the barrage of stupid questions that are about to follow in the next couple of posts from me. Should I put the zip straight on to the sd card or extract it to meta-inf then place it on?
Because if I let it do its thing as the zip it says the image can't be found when trying to load.
just put it straight to the sd card and it should add the 4ext recovery instead of the crappy clock work mod recovery if it doesnt work ill try upload a better one

By the way I really appreciate all the help so far. This is one hell of a learning curve.
