Yeah, since there seem to be good NZ options, I'm going to go with Fastmail in the new year, barring becoming aware of any interesting alternative options.

I'm using Google Workspace right now, but have been badly let down by their support with an account issue. And it turns out MS 360 Personal only supports a GoDaddy registered domain, and zero aliases :-( ProtonMail was a bit too pricy for the features I need (at least a couple domains and several aliases), and I'd rather have a bit less privacy to be able to use my email client of choice.

I've used FastMail for years, they're good.

@BlakJak why are you downloading with POP3 to archive? I use Mail Store Home (free) which stores email from all accounts on my PC, in a searchable format. It pulls email in from IMAP, local, etc.

Why not? It saves all my mail in a searchable format, on my PC. :-)

I run my own POP3/IMAP/SMTP platform which is pretty painless, I have the advantage of having done it for rather a long time so I don't have to build an SMTP reputation.

Fair enough. Have a look at mailstore home, works great, and you easily search and export messages out, really easy.

I've been using openhost.co.nz to host my own domain's emails for the last few years, accessed by IMAP from several devices.

Always reliable, excellent value. No problem archiving emails locally every so often to stay within whatever storage limit you've chosen.

@Baboon I use Google Workspace on the Grandfathered Free plan - as you can imagine, that comes with zero support. Never had to contact them, mail keeps flowing and I've got SPF + DKIM + DMARC enabled on my domain.

Only thing I miss is not having SMTP Smarthosts for locally-hosted services.

As you've said - you've been let down by support but why did you need to contact them? I have personally never needed to contact them in the ~12yrs I've had my main domain. They're actually not a bad choice in provider if you "don't mind" the privacy side of it.
