Trump has quite a few things going on in his life at the moment.

What with his punitive tariffs on steel not being greeted with wild enthusiasm and chants of "MAGA" by the markets (which drop sharply as soon as the news hits), the news about his son-in-law looking rather grim in terms of "what exactly did he sell in order to secure $500m in loans for his failing family property empire?".

Then there's his WH communication director (qualified for the role by being a "friend of Ivanka"), who despite keeping mum for 9 hours grilling from the HIC who don't really want to find that anything naughty is going on anyway, commits seppuku by blurting that she tells "white lies" for Trump. The press note that the POTUS got elected by telling "white lies to white people" - which has nice ring to it.

Then there's that extremely annoying Mueller .  Most remarkable thing so far is that Trump's supporters (including Fox News etc) have an uncanny ability to connect unconnected dots, to create wildly inaccurate theories of conspiracies to suit their agenda, but are in complete denial when what the POTUS calls a "witch hunt" starts lining up dots in neat, coherent, incriminating rows.

Then puppet master and leader for life, Putin, announces that he's got an an array of new nuclear powered and nuclear armed weapons like the world's never seen before at his disposal, and that there's nothing at all the West can do to resist. And what justification he has - the POTUS he assisted in electing ran on a platform of needing to update and upgrade the US arsenal - one of the growing number of incredibly dumb things this abject disaster of a US president has added to his list of "achievements".  Of course Trump won't "do anything" about it.  

The gun thing, where Trump has managed to annoy the crap out of basically everybody with his random variable confused "position". There's actually much more stuff which could be described as "not good news for Trump" happening.

Should be happy, as any one of the scandals should be enough to if not "take him down", at least make him lose the mid-term elections, and kill reelection chances.  But it probably won't - there has to be a "distraction" on the way.  There's no way that the GOP or Putin want to see Trump fall.

I'm having a hard time establishing exactly where these conspiracy theories originate from given Fox repeats Trump who repeats Fox, each time adding to the narrative.

Within Geekzone's ranks there might be enough talent to fill those vacancies.   I mean even if I got fired after one week I could still put it on a CV.    Maybe Chief Usher that does not sound too hard.

Hopefully it's like a snake eating its own tail.

But seriously, there's an echo chamber going on amongst rabid "supporters" (with varied motivations) who spend a hell of a lot of time testing CT, memes etc. Some eventually leak out.  Reddit's The_Donald forum has rules and strict openly extremely biased moderation, if you want to find a popular and hard to refute sensational CT, then that made it very easy to find.  Reading 4Chan, Breitbart comments etc is more likely to lead to a far greater % of easily refuted claims made by obvious nut-jobs, and selecting something directly from say Breitbart editorial content would require attributing the story to them.  But the same stuff generally circulates around the same fake news sites, be they editorial or "user comment".  I'd hazard a guess that they're here too in NZ,  articles on Stuff critical of Trump or Putin seem to often rapidly elicit carbon copy "reader comment".

The Russian bot farms also use feedback mechanisms to work out "successful" strategic lies, which ones tickle the right nerve and need to be expanded on.

As we've seen, they're very very good at it - it worked.  And because it worked so very well, there's absolutely no hope in my opinion that it's going to go away, regardless of half-hearted efforts by Twitter, FB etc to clean things up.  The trolls will just get smarter and work harder - the prize is worth it to them.

So a question - why are the conservative/right trolls generally better at what they do on social media than "liberals"?

I miss Spicer.  I must have a soft spot for bare-faced liars who can't quite pull it off (understatement), despite very earnest maximum effort.  It shows that they're at least partly human. 

Compare to SHS, who seems to enjoy lying very much more than she does telling the truth.

Regarding the failure of the US liberals to respond in kind, I think they're just too honest. Or principled.

Or have absolutely no understanding of the reason for firebreaks.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders Organizing “Million Liars March” to Support Hope Hicks

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—The White House press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, said on Wednesday that she was organizing a “Million Liars March” to support her co-worker Hope Hicks.

Calling on “American liars from every walk of life” to march, Sanders said that she had already received commitments from hundreds of liars in the White House, the Cabinet, and Congress.

“These people realize what’s at stake,” she said. “It’s not just Hope Hicks’s career—it’s the lying life style itself.”

“White lies like Hope’s were the lies of a promising beginner,” she said. “If Hope had been allowed to grow as liar, I have no doubt that someday she could have been as consistent a dispenser of ginormous whoppers as I am.”

She said that, if Hope Hicks is villainized, “where will the next generation of liars come from?”

Sanders said that the Million Liars March would address other issues of importance to the nation’s liars, such as a ban on lie detectors and a mandatory waiting period before statements can be fact-checked.

At the end of her announcement, Sanders appeared to choke back tears as she swore loyalty to her embattled colleague. “I believe in the mendacity of Hope,” she said.

KUSHNER CLOSE TO OBTAINING CLEARANCE FOR OTHER GOVERNMENT FACILITY

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Just days after losing his top security clearance at the White House, Jared Kushner could soon be eligible to enter another high-security government facility, legal experts believe.

According to Davis Logsdon, a law professor at the University of Minnesota, Kushner could be on the verge of obtaining “long-term clearance” at this separate facility, which, like the White House, is owned and operated by the federal government.

Logsdon said that, although such a facility lacks some of the prestige of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kushner would have access to government benefits there that far exceed what he has received as an unpaid adviser at the White House.

“All of his meals and housing would be fully paid for by the taxpayer,” Logsdon said. “And, if things play out the way some believe they will, Jared Kushner could be receiving these benefits for decades to come.”

While gaining entry to another government facility so soon after losing security clearance at the White House would represent an extraordinary comeback for Kushner, it would not come without a price, the law professor warned.

“Jared Kushner might have to put his plans to bring peace to the Middle East on hold,” he said.

Serendipitous - despite no doubt the mainstream media having staff searching Reddit for "interesting news" leads, they're only now starting to take notice of what's really going on.
