After hearing some talk of a better priced YouTube Premium, I cancelled today and then noticed that YouTube Premium Lite @ $13.99 NZD was available.  So I signed back up.  Those of you who struggle with the ad's but also the full premium price, try cancelling and then renewing.

What does this provide? I assume no ads, but lower quality or some-such?

Removes ads from videos but not music, shorts, and search.  Might not have background play either, which would be a deal breaker for me.

Haven't tested it but it does appear to include background play now.

Cheers all.
Have cancelled YT Premium and will renew with Lite when my current sub expires in May

Lite has background play apparently:

https://blog.youtube/news-and-events/youtube-premium-lite-background-play-downloads/

I'm currently not subscribed. I'm thinking of going back to a family sub. Not available in Lite I think. I'm not terribly keen about going back to YouTube Music because I prefer Tidal quality by a long shot even with my Bluetooth headphones.

A family Lite in future would be good to remove the distractions from YouTube and separately subscribe to Tidal until Google eventually provides a similar quality service.

That's cool thanks for confirming.  Seems like a good deal then, since I don't use their music service.  The only other gotcha might be if there's a device limit.

It does indeed!

This is a little more expensive than Australia.

Hopefully it's just a gradual roll out. I can't see it as an option yet.

Lite not offered to me ... but I see an option to take a free 1 month Premium so grabbed that while I wait for Lite to become available.

I cancelled my Premium subscription this morning and then, out of interest, clicked the upgrade to Premium so maybe try that method.

Seems downloads in now also included under lite - a deal breaker for offline viewing while flying etc.

Now if they had family lite...
