Hi,

Just wondering if there are other Visione VE4000 users out there, I have a unit. I have already sent it back once because it wouldn't record audio during a "timed" recording. The replacement unit seems to have a similar fault but it is not consistent ie. works sometimes but not always.

The "untimed" recordings (i.e record button) work well every time. Note: firmware is latest available off the visione site.

Just wondering if anyone else can shed light on their experience with this unit.

Last time I tried with one of these (some time ago, probably before the most recent firmware), the audio always went out of sync so I never bothered trying any further.

The distributor of the VE4000 has discontinued it, though I haven't heard why.

I have one, although I seldom use it as I have replaced the TV I got it for with one that has a built in freeview decoder. It was pretty darn cheap ($212 on sale at Harvey Norman)

I now only occasionally use it to record, so that I get a recording in HD.

For anyone who is thinking of buying one, it works pretty well as a basic Freeview box. It tunes all the channels with good signal sensitivity, outputs them to the TV, and will put HD over component for those of you with older TVs. If all you want is a basic set top box, it's fine. Incidentally, it also works off 12 volt power for anyone with a caravan.

However, as a PVR it is clunky and unpleasant. The software isn't well written and the box fails to cope well. It has big lags between pussing a remote button and something happening, commands don't always work, sometimes it andomly decides the USB disk has been ejected, and sometime the audio gets out of synch (but pausing and playing often fixes this). MOst irritatingly, if you stop something you have been playing you have to resume it from the start and fast forward all the way to the point. Also, I can't make timer record work.

So yes as a basic set top box, a resounding no as a PVR.

Thanks Jimmy for the info, I have to agree basically with everything you have writern os I am glad I'm not allone and can blame the unit - not my setup. I.e ok as a receiver but poor as a PVR. Delays and out of sync are both things I have experienced.

How does "programmed" recording work for you? - do you have situations where audio is not recorded at all (not just out of sync)?
