Hi All,

We don't have Mysky at the moment but are considering it. With the dual tuner can anyone tell me what the UHF output on the mysky does?

Does it just output the current channel being watched or does it output 2 x different UHF channels, one for current channel and one for content being played / recorded?

We have sky distributed throughout the house and just trying to figure out how it would integrate with that.

Hi Matt,

The UHF outputs on MySky (there are 2 of them) carry the channel you are currently watching, same as the TV SCART or S-Video or AV outputs. This is completely independent of whatever channels you may be recording at any given time.

One of the UHF outputs is intended for connection to a VCR, the second carries 9V DC and is intended for a second TV set. I guess they provided DC on that output to power some sort of distribution amp, should you find it necessary.

Hi Grant, and Matt, the RF out that has 9V on it is to power a TVLink device. This is a small module that you put in the line at the remote TV site, it has a lead off it with a small IR pickup on the end. This IR pickup signals back down the coax to the MySky to provide an integrated remote IR feature. Hills carry the product in NZ, however they seem to only resell it through approved Sky installers, you can get them from DSE(Aus) for $69Aus and it comes with a 2nd remote (badged up as Foxtel) the Foxtel IQ is identical (other than badging both on the box and in the menus) to the MySky.

Thanks for the replies guys. If playing a recorded program on mysky does it output through the UHF out?

I don't think TV link is going to work as I have a clipsal starserve TV hub which is a powered distribution hub. It would probably cause havoc or block the TV link 9 Volt signal.

I dont think the starserve will block it, but I would not run the MySky DC on a feed with Starserve, infact I have never tried it but it is possible that if you connect the RF out of the MySky (with 9V off) to portB of the StarServe (Ithink its port B) then you can make the MySky work without needing a Tx IR blaster infront of the MySky.

The MySky has only one mpeg decoder onboard, therefore whatever is being viewed either live or recorded is what is currently being passed through that single mpeg decoder. With PVR's such as mysky you can manipulate upto three data streams on and off the disc at will (ie record two streams and view a previously recorded one, or record one and watch another live) however only one data stream can be decoded and actually viewed, the others just get the wanted program stream off the various transport layers and put them onto disc, ie no decode is needed.

Thanks for telling me about that Cyril, it sounds like a much better way to do it than using a separate device such as IR Blaster etc. It's nice to know that PACE have built in some extra smarts to make it easier for system integrators

Thanks very much Cyril! That was a great explanation of how the Mysky works, so even though it says it has a dual tuner effectively I can't have two TV's in the house watching two different channels live....

I have a One4All video sender (SV1710) that I was given which I am using as a remote control extender. I will now have to find someone with a mysky to test that with....

Cyril you mention the Pace DS-230, is there any way to get the TV link working with this STB?

Any other ideas to firm up the DS-230's responsiveness to IR-repeater systems?

The DS230 seemed to work OK with the SV1710 IR repeater. I tried it out on a relatives unit and it seemed to be very responsive.

Wow really, we use a separate IR thingy and it is really crap. It sucks so much you won't believe.

I'm going to have to look into this as having a IR extender that actually works would be wonderful.

Is anyone else in NZ selling TV Link apart from Hills? It is a real shame it is only available to Sky installers from Hills.

Hills Signalmaster web site in NZ has a Catalouge section.

After selecting Catalouges, go to Hills>Home Automation>IR Modules 06> page 4 - last one and you will see the RF in line one Cyril is talking about.

It is not shown in the NZ catalouge. It also says it is 5v not 9v.

Catalogue 6 only details Hills home hub IR system, it has no reference to the TVLink product as previously posted by me. I have contacted Hills on several occasions and hit a brick wall, they seem to have some agreement with Sky or Sky contractors that only Sky contractors can gain access to the TVLink product.

To get around this I suggest you attempt to get it either from TVLink or DSE in Aus. DSE may not ship to NZ, so it may help if you have a friend in Aus to pic one up and send it across.

I visited my local Hills branch and they would have sold me TV Link and also Hills own product I referred to in earlier posting. The Hills one is a ridiculous price (well over $100 trade).

I do have an account with Hills as I have a hardware store that sells some of their products.
