I am not an optics engineer, and I dont know how IR would react to this idea, but it may be worth trying polarized glass filters on the remotes and rxers. Horizontal for one and vertical for the other, could be a cheap and easy solution if it works.

You could probably test this using a couple pairs of polarized sunglasses.

It seems Sky have unwittingly generated an explosion of lateral thinking.

Re the Pronto: so it can effectively route signals to the different emitters. That would be handy.

Last night I had my first problem with the HDi.

Went to turn it on, and it wouldn't turn on. Had to do a front panel reset.

Yes, 4 RF Channels with 16 ID's each channel (I think). With this system, you could separate twin MySkys in the same room and put one anywhere else within RF range and have an 'IR blaster' control it in that room.

This IR Remote clash is a Sky Problem! Not mine, fine ideas guys but I am going to carry on pushing Skys buttons till THEY come up with a Soloution and I sugest we encourage everyone else to phone them and raise this issue.

I agree. If we are, de facto, forced to use a Sky appliance or appliances then we should expect them to meet reasonable modern consumer electronics standards. I think MySky has fallen below that at times and so has the HDi.

If people don't communicate these issues to them and demand a higher standard then they will continue to source sub-par boxes and inadequate firmware.

It is not Skys problem, they sell you a product called Multiroom, which they intend you use the units in different (multi) rooms, if you do, the remotes function as designed. If you use 2 units in a home distrubution system and hence they are positioned so both units can see a single remote then why is that Skys problem? They didn't sell you a multi unit Sky distrubution system.

I am happy they use the same remote as it makes the 2 additional remotes I have purchased (Foxtel ones from Aus) useful rather than redundant in the upgrade. So if I ring Sky, it will be to compliment them on keeping compatibility or coplain about real bugs and problems.

It wouldn't have been a great technical challenge to include an alterative ir codebase so it could be switched over in this situation.
Bear in mind that Sky's business model is aimed at getting about 70% of people who take up the HDi to also subscribe to multiroom and likely a majority would already have My Sky.

The remote clash example also comes on top of Sky's choice of an ir signalling system which was incompatible with most existing ir detectors and you can understand the frustration.

At the end of the day if you want the content you have to put up with what you're given.

yea no use blaming Sky...you won't get anywhere. The best solution to this growing problem I have managed to find is to convert one or more of the remotes to RF frequency and have a RF to IR coverter near one of the setop boxes. Easy to achieve and would only cost about the same as filling the tank of say an HSV Holden twice....

stupid recording freezing still happening.

I was recording the Warriors game on 31, was on TV 1, switched to the Warriors game to get a score update, whole unit freezes with the banner down the bottom. Red button reset, again

Anyone else getting this?

Should we be contacting Sky about these bugs so they can actually fix them?

Badmac with respect I think you've put your own spin on what multiroom actually is. When we upgraded to HD, Sky included an AV Modulator for free to enable the output to be seen around the house on the RF distribution system. (the Foxtel box has no RF out) So sky recognise many want to view TV in other places rather than just where the STB is. Being able to distribute the signal is part of the multiroom attraction for many who pay for Sky.

allstarnz, I am getting similar problems.

I received the mySky HDi box on Friday and I was really impressed... to begin with. I had to go out last night and so started record both the Warriors game and the rowing finals on TV1. I came back home and thought I would watch the rowing. Went to the Planner and selected it. This is when it locked up. I had to reboot it with the red reset button. When it came back up it showed the two programs still recording but when I watched them it started from the time I rebooted, so missed out on an hour

This has happened on three occasions now but under different circumstances.

I just don't think this is acceptable. I will certainly ring Sky tomorrow but I'm not holding my breath for a satisfactory reply. But if we don't compain then nothing will happen. Roll on the next firmare update!
