I was happily browsing on the internet and then my modem started to turn off and on. Then once i connected again my speed went from 320 kb/s to 7.6 Mb/s. This is really wierd as i am only on the lowest plan which runs at 320 kb/s. My ISP is WorldxChange. Im not sure what has happened or how long it will stay like this?
Telecom is moving everyone to full rate on the line and do the rate limiting somewhere else on the Network. Your Speed made show 7.6M, but I'm pretty sure your still rate limited to 256K (unless Telecom stuffed something up)
Thanks. I was recently told to do a speed test at www.nzdsl.co.nz and it did only show me at 256 kbps download speeds even though my connection says 7.6 mbps.
Your modem speed is the theoratical line speed which telecom talk about in their full speed broadband advertising. It is the connection between you and the exchange. The connection between the exchange and the isp is a totaly seperate thing that is not measurable by you unless you have some technical know-how and access to the exchanges, and also the connection between the exchange and the isp is usually below the line speed because telecom like to overload the network with customers so it varies based on what everyone else in the street / area is doing.
