Moved to FibreX 200 and 2 months gone. Not really happy, yes, the speed as ads 200/20

But

1. Drops connection 2-3 times a day for 5-10mins, before with Motorola cable modem, old plan 100/10, it will happened once in 6 months +/-, its all happening during day hours, not much affect me.

2. The big complain, it can't handle a connection to the office PC, how it works for me:

  • home PC Windows 7/10 ->
  • Windows build-in VPN ->
  • Windows Remote Desktop Connection (through IP address)->
  • office PC Windows 10

Handle 4-6 mins and drops, impossible to work, with the old plan I can work hours without single drop.

3. Vodafone TV box - full of artifacts, we don't watch much, just news at 6pm and its really bad

Booked technician, will come this week to investigate, and they told me they don't have any problems from their side.

Is there anything from my side I can check/do? Any router tuning(I'm using my personal one, instead of Vodafone)?

Thanks in advance.

Many on here had problems with frequent micro outages early in FibreX's life, however it seems to have settled down of late. @PeterReader didn't pop up, but it would be helpful if you described your current network (what router, wifi vs ethernet etc.) and your troubleshooting steps.

I'd start by putting the Vodafone router back in and see if that changes anything. Vodafone will make you do this anyway as part of the troubleshooting so you might as well get it out of the way. As many on GZ will tell you, the HG659 is a pretty good quality product (though if you're a new customer, you might have the Ultrahub)?

Not much to say, the router is https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-EA9500/ and I never use Vodafone router, when tech came we just removed the old modem, connect to a new one, change the router to VLAN, and nothing else, no any changes made to the router. WIFI and ethernet BAU, speed is ok, 200/20 no problem.

No, I'm long customer, so we have the previous Vodafone TV box.

Just to tell again, I did not have ANY problems with the old plan, no problem with TV and/or internet, its still same TV box, same router, same devices around the house.

PS: > 30 - 35 devices in one time can connect

That could be part of the problem. Old (DOCSIS3.0) cable used a static IP. New (DOCSIS3.1/FibreX) uses DHCP (and VLAN10 tagging which you mention).

Actually I did buy the static IP address, I needed it for my domains.

"Static" IPs on FibreX are just reserved DHCP allocations. You would still need to have your router set to DHCP. Try changing that and see if that fixes it.

But taking it back to a more basic level, there is every chance that the problem is something like a faulty or corroded connector. The connector may have been good enough for the old HFC, but is showing problems with more data packed in to a smaller space on DOCSIS3.1. However, I am almost certain when you speak to the helpdesk or get a tech out the first thing they will do is get you to put the Vodafone-supplied router back in and see if that fixes the issue. If that fixes the problem, then the issue is with your router. If that doesn't fix the problem, then they will investigate further.

So to sum up, you can save yourself some grief later (e.g. repeat visits, call-out fees) by trying the Vodafone-supplied router now.

DHCP is enabled.

The funny is that TV set is not changed, still Motorola modem, still TV box, same cables, and it worst than it was before. The only one thing is changed for the TV that the tech something did on the electrical post and when I asked what he is doing there he answered "you new plan cable preparation".

I had a very similar experience with a Linksys E8500.  I had periodic disconnections, of about 5 mins duration, which seemed to only affect the WiFi rather than the wired connections.

I swapped the E8500 out for a Netgear Orbi and have not been getting any disconnections since making the change.  (There are now speed issues now with the new Orbi - but that a different story Orbi Speed - Netgear Forums

I suspect that FibreX architecture does not play nicely with the Linksys routers for whatever reason ...

If it is true it is very disappointing, I paid $550 for my router to get a full coverage for my house. Who is going to recover this money?

Well, it's only circumstantial evidence.  Like you, I had no issues with the EA8500 on the previous plan, but when I upgraded to FibreX the problems started straight away.  The problems vanished when I swapped routers.

Vodafone would probably have a counter view that unless you use their supplied router (mine was a Huawei HG659) then they can't be held responsible.  The trouble is that the Huawei HG659 didn't provide adequate coverage over our multi-story house, hence the need for an after-market router.  IMO it's not unreasonable to expect any quality after-market router to work with any ISP's architecture.

Note that the problem may not be specifically with the FibreX.  Like my E8500, your E9500 appears to have some history of disconnects: Linksys-EA9500-disconnect-issue

It might well be that the FibreX architecture exposes this latent defect in the Linksys routers.  If you've only just bought it recently, you may be able to take it back?

It was frustrating for me that the problem showed up immediately on switching to FibreX, but since it could have been a latent issue with the Linksys router, I switched routers to the Orbi  (I lost about $150 on the E8500 router, selling it second-hand  cry

P.S. We also have the old 'T-box' for Vodafone TV, but didn't experience any issues with the TV when we switched to FibreX.  So your issue may be different.

Confirmed, its my Linksys E9500 router drops connection, Vodafone router works fine, no problem, which solve the problem. Now I need to move from Vodafone and try other providers to use my router.

I'm not completely sure but since you're on HFC I was under the impression you're stuck with VF.

Can't you just turn WiFi off on the VF modem and use your Linksys for WiFi only?

I have to think how I can cancel that. and it does not solve the port forwarding settings.
