Is Aerial Master in Naenae the right place in Wellington to swap your Sky decoder? Looks like Sky have started getting serious in turning off people holding out on swapping to the new Kaon boxes.

I would say the best idea is to call Sky and get a tech to come out, its possible the smart card needs to be changed as well plus making sure you have the right cables, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion but based on past experience I'm not prepared to have their contractors on the premises so it's swap the decoder or cancel the subscription. People who drill the floor right through shag pile carpet, don't have a proper crimp tool for RG-6, and have never heard of gell filled F connectors don't inspire me with confidence.

Been sitting on the fence thinking about dropping the service for quite a while. Enjoying ITV, BBC, and Amazon so Sky with advertising is a very marginal proposition.

well you dont have much choice if you want to keep sky, a sky contractor has to install the new box.

It's just a box swap, why would they drill through carpet?, They would just plug it in where existing box is and make sure it's going ok.

You need to call Sky who will send around a tech for the box and card swap.

If you're not happy with a tech doing this your only option is as you've already mentioned which is to cancel.

I ended up putting in a double aerial plug one for sky one for freeview so they didn't drill through my new carpet, Chorus nearly walked out when made them run the VDSL jack through the wall not the floor. You may be able to swap at new bolds upper hutt they collect the returns?

There is no cabling required for a box swap.

Here is how it goes:
Tech walks in, looks at tv, asks questions to see if the decoder is right or if you need a mysky HDi (for connectors with or with out recoding as per your instructions)

look at dish and check signal.

Remove old decoder.

Replace cables as needed and perhaps modulator if you need one (free of charge)

Install decoder.

Connect to wifi or ethernet.

Explain how it works and show you how it works.

Do paperwork, wish you a happy day and leave.

Time to do? Usually 30 min tops, assuming you don't need dish work done.

You can not take your decoder to sky, they can not change the decoder there no matter what you do or say.

If you refuse the upgrade, eventually you will be disconnected unless you upgrade. Remember the upgrade is FREE.

Thanks for the various comments. I've found out how to do the swap. Not concerned about how to do the installation.
