Not defending Sky, but did Sky do this? No, they got someone else to do this, they failed. Ultimately it ends up in Skys IN tray. Lesson learned, next upstep they do, look elsewhere

Haven't they always been somewhat technically challenged? I seem to recall a long history of low resolution, restricted choice, and using the courts to try to keep others from offering something better. (I could be wrong, of course!)

Ive had Sky forever. TV is plasma so its old. But when I see dandruff and skin texture, its fine. The only issue I had was when they moved Nascar to Sky2, extra $, so I got that and didnt pay the bill. When the debt or Sky guy came round, I bleated then paid the bill! Other than that its "just" a service, and what I view "just works"

Yes, if its recording 3 channels and Im watching one of them or a live channel, it can get slightly laggy on button presses, but thats ok

to be fair to Sky it does what it say it does, it just doesnt have the features that the old one had. If you never used the old box i  think it would be fine because you wouldnt know what you are missing.

What am I missing on my old Sky Box?

as i said it is just little things that dont stop the box working.

You cant see live TV when you are scrolling through the planner.

You cant set a time to start a recorded programme, if you want to watch the second innings of a T20 you have to fast forward the whole first innings and if you hit the wrong button you have to start again, old box i could make it start at the 120 minute mark .

Fast forwarding puts the graphics so you cant see the programme and the screen freezes on the really fast speeds so no idea when to push play.

No back button to go back to the previous channel which is a pain when you cant remember what sport channel you were watching

When watching a recorded programme you cant scroll through the channels like it is live TV

No UHD on Prime and Netflix have to watch it through the TV apps

No yellow button so cant change to a different commentary

and dont get me started on the remote, my fat fingers dont work , i am forever pushing the wrong button

There are more but cant think of them at the moment.

The remote button is too sensitive hence you have to hold it with two hands to make sure you get 12/3/6/9 o'clock positions exactly else you are booted somewhere else.

All I have to say is Sky sourced updated budget devices, personally they are much better than the old devices if they can iron out the problems we are having with firmware updates, this can be achieved. But who is going to pay for these fixes?

i agree i have nothing against the new box if they can fix the problems with updates but i have had it for 2 months and nothing has been fixed. i have had enough and i will look at it again when and if they fix it but im not holding my breath.

Now I know what we are missing with the new box, and I guess that now we have purchased the new box there will be no possibility of getting the old model.

Apart from reading the complaints on this forum I have not seen any adverse comments anywhere else, so I presume most customers are satisfied with the new model.

i have the old mysky box coming and they also said they will refund me the $50 i paid but they did tell me it would be $200 so i will wait and see what happens .

i just checked my account and found this.

Your new box order is in progress. Once that's complete you'll be able to make further upgrades in My Account.

What is the chance that a new white box turns up.

Mine seems to update itself most of the time. I usually have to do a manual restart afterwards though as it bugs out (lose the planner view when flicking between channels)

I recorded 3 movies, 2 from Sky and 1 from TV3. All 3 show they were recorded and have what looks like a correct duration.

When I go to play them, the correct time shows briefly in the bottom then switches to 00:00 and it won't play, all 3 are the same.

I record other TV programs without issue.

Does anyone have any ideas? (I don't really want to ring Sky as I don't want to sit on hold for hours.

I get that when Series Link records a programme I'm not subscribed for: for example I put Series link on for a programme on Sky channel 5 or one of the other 'remainders' channels, and then it not only records the 'Series 2 Episode 7' I'm expecting, but also 'Series 6 Episode 3' off one of the 'first run' channels I'm not subscribed to. Then if I try to play that unlicensed one, I get exactly the symptom you describe.

Maybe you're recording something that Sky thinks you're not allowed to access?

That makes sense (the not allowed to access) But that doesn't explain the TV3 issue. I tested yesterday by watching a sky movie (Free for a month) then started to record. When i went back to watch the recording, same issue.

Havent had issues with non-movies.

Guess I'm going to have to call Sky (shudder)
