Looks like an update has rolled for the new Sky boxes which includes Remote Record capability!
Platform version - 1.2.1

This brings Remote Record functionality which is now live and working!

Thanks for the update. Yes, it looks like mine updated automatically without me noticing, not even any issue with the wifi - maybe because I have set static IP?

Remote record does indeed work now thru the Skygo app. Not yet thru the Sky TV Guide app on IOS, no update pending on that yet - and there is a setting there where you can link to a sky box, but that didn’t work. But small steps, great news so far!

Could be because of the static IP. My boxes are not on static IP's.

RE - Remote record
You need to download and use the SkyGo app on iOS not the Sky TV Guide. Thats old and doubt its going to be updated to support this. Tested via the SkyGo app which has the TV Guide on it and it works well.

https://www.sky.co.nz/sky-box-and-sky-pod-upcoming-features#release-notes

New Sky Box
Sky STB version 2.22.34-tv

  • Remote Record – You can now use Sky Go to set up your recordings when you’re away from home. Find out how here.
  • Recording – Applied a fix for My Sky where recordings were being split into multiple files
  • Recording Playback – The ability to return to the last played position in your recordings
  • TV Guide - Skip 24 hours ahead on the TV guide using the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons
  • TV Guide - Visit a channel on the TV Guide by entering the channel number

Nice find on the release notes. I didnt bother having a look on the Sky website as they never post them but this is a change. Somewhat suprised they posted release notes!

This said - further surprised that those are the only changes/fixes for what has been a good 3-4 months. Expected a ton more enhancements to the overall UX. I can hope and only assume there are ton of bug fixes under the release except they never posted them as part of the release notes.

So these things look like they’ll be ready for market within a few months! Great news.

Yes, but as you mentioned the SkyGo app doesn’t do TVNZ, whereas the Sky TV guide does -and could remote record them, so it would be shame if they didn’t do any work on it. Sounds like there might be a licensing fight going on as to why they aren’t including TVNZ channels on SkyGo (??). Not sure if they ever have, have they?

And yes @shadowspawn great find on the release notes!

Is there any way to see only subscribed channels or favorite them in the skygo app?

I assume the Sky TV app won't do the remote recording.

Not that I have seen but remember that it looks like they are wanting SkyGo’s UI to mimic that of the Sky Box and you cannot do it in the Sky Box currently.

Losing the "favourite channels" feature is a real pain.  I hate having to scroll through all the channels I never watch just to find those that I do, and life is just too short to be memorising all the channel numbers.

Twice this week my new Sky box decided to remove the Series Link from almost all my Series Linked recordings. Both time it was overnight. Each time I’ve had to individually turn it back on for them. I don’t want to have to check them all every day…… Sigh

Thats it. They have moved the Sky STB app to be a system apps so in apps > show system apps > then scroll down for a while until you see Sky STB.
The latest Sky STB seems to have shipped with the new platform version - the OS level update anyways.

I am being denied the ability to record some programs from the new SKyBox TV Guide and told to check my subscription.

I am able to work-around the block if I go and search for the same program, and record the show from the search.

Latest failure was for "8 out of 10 Cats does Countdown" on TV 2 on Tuesday.

So, it's been months since I've returned my new sky box because I was promised to be in the trial but it didn't happen. I was surprised that Sky continued to sell the boxes in return for mediocre experience. Months later I'm coming back to this forum, and I'm seeing the same responses. Looks like nothing has changed and glad I have given up on it months back. So glad to have switched to the Chromecast with Google TV 4K, and will be catching Rugby World cup soon on that device.

It was interesting to read this article last week [paywalled]: Sky CEO’s sincere apology over TV Box troubles

A couple of quotes from the article:

"Sky CEO Sophie Moloney has issued a sincere apology for a raft of technical difficulties that have afflicted the company’s much-heralded new Sky Box and Sky Pod technologies."

"Undoubtedly there are some software issues that we are fixing that have caused customers issues that they didn’t have with the old experience."

At least it shows that Sky is aware that there are genuine problems, and is actively working on fixes.

I really do hope they solve the problems. I cancelled Sky and returned my Sky Pod when family members simply refused to use it any more. I'd really like to subscribe again, but I won't be doing that until such time that the software is in a significantly better state.
