I just had a terrible surprise in my mail box, my promo deal has just run out so my package of MySky +, Sports, Rugby & HD ticket goes from $59.21 up to $118.61, I've already phoned to say that I want to cancel, they can't take my cancellation today and someone will call me tomorrow.
They have no interest in retaining customers even when I offer to sign up at the discounted rate for another 12 months, so I have to give 28 days notice to cancel and then there's a 3 month stand down, unless I get my flat mate (or wife) to sign up, It's just ridiculous.
I think I'll be doing a whole lot more streaming in the next few months

Thats no good. Can you save money to cover this by going to Countdown and Z and Genesis to get 50% off for the next year?

You may feel I am being unreasonable, but am I? Or are you?

Its not ridiculous. You were given a temporary cheap deal. Good for you. But its not a sustainable deal.

I don't believe he does, despite his following post. There is a cost to provide, and promos are not cost-plus. Its possible I want it cheap and I want it now. Perhaps.

Sky could say, bugger it, this is the price, but like any business they chase new customers. But some new customers chase and chase. Thats not reasonable.

Yes I fully understand what you're saying, you believe it costs Sky $100 to provide a bunch of channels that I want and a bunch of channels I don't want. Do you understand that I will actually no longer be paying sky anything, not a cent, their business model needs updating, there are so many people changing over to streaming services because it's more cost effective.
It's easy to find HD links to live sport these days and I've been using Sky for the convenience factor of not having to boot up my PC and do a search every time I want to change channels but that convenience in not worth $118/month in my opinion.

Cancel, and grab those reliable, legal HD links to all sports.

Why would it cost more to provide? If I was to subscribe today, apart from the hardware cost to install, which they often charge for if not a promo, the cost price for the content to them would still be the same wouldn't it? The more customers they have the more the cost is shared across all those customers. I would have thought that a customer paying a lower amount is better than no paying customer at all.

Your right, it is. Its revenue. But when ALL expect $58 fort every fink, that doesnt work. Thats why Countdown offers loss leaders on some products to get you in the door, but not all products.

I'm not being unreasonable, I'm telling sky that I no longer want their service as it doesn't offer the great value it did for the first year, they have the opportunity to give me more discount and make less money or lose me as a customer and make no money (from me)

I think the old saying have your cake your and eat it too comes to mind while reading this thread. I don't have sky and don't intend to, but to expect to get a promo price forever while everyone else pays full price, well go figure.

Yes they chase new customers and try to lock them in for life, but consumers are actually evolving and sometimes getting one step ahead of the suppliers, the term I signed up to was 6 months in which I couldn't change the plan and a further 6 months at the discounted price where I was free to add or remove services as I saw the need, as the term of the agreement had run it's course I also find it strange that they can lock me in for a further 28 days after I confirm my cancellation of subscription, what would the reason for that be? I know, because they want it to be too hard for people to be bothered canceling.

Actually its make no money. So Sky would do best to lose you. You want a promo discount to be permanent. This IMHO is not reasonable. Sky;s ARPU is about $80 per month. Their profit is about $15 per month. Your $58 doesnt work. For a new customer, as a promo, some will stay on, thats the gain. Your effectively wanting 800,000 odd customers to get a 50% permanent discount. Thats a circa $30 loss per every customer per month.

I'm not holding Sky to ransom, I'm telling them that I'll leave if I don't get a discount, I work in the Retail environment and if people ask me for a discount I'll give it to them, especially if it's the difference between keeping a customer and losing one. In my opinion, if your paying full price for almost anything you're paying too much

Sky are not the only service that has a 28 or 30 day notice period. I'm sorry but you seem to want everything for your terms not the real terms
