rugrat:

When I rang them they gave me a 25% discount for a year contract.

I had to wait for a call back, that took about 2 and a half months, but had the Sky Box free, recording and two Sky Channels that changed each month.

Have about 2 months left, but last month they rang me and gave me Sky Movies and SoHo for just under $10 a month for 3 months which takes me to end of contract.

When I rang first time I just said wanted to cancel Sky, they asked if wanted to cancel now  or have it for free until someone called back, expecting it to be in 3 months so waited.

Will see what happens when contract up.

I should probably ask. I've had Sky forever. Will it be "ok, cool, I'll cancel it now" or will I get a "ok, sorry what can I do to keep you?

I;ve always had a "we would like to offer you package x for you to stay".

Worst case scenario where they say "ok cool, ill cancel it now", you have to be giving a 1 month notice, so you could always call back and change your mind

My FIL rang to cancel his, they offered him like a 10% discount for 3 months.

There seems no Rhyme or reason to what or whom they offer things to.

LOL :-)

I watch docos. Some stuff on Living Channel.  NRL i.e the Worriers. I dont watch national rugby but I am watching Blues games as they have RTS the NRL Kiwi star.

Golf, thats huge for me, PGA, LPGA

Indycar I might watch that, but no issue there.

So yeah there is a bit

I could check out the details of what I watch, what streaming options are available. I.e Golf is on Golf Channel and Peacock, unsure how accessible they are

I "think" Sky is doing ok" now, subscriber and revenue wise. Perhaps they are backing off the deals. Ill fully admit the convenience vastly out weighs the affordability. But I could dig my toes in and see what i can get streaming for golf, catch up my recordings and just can it. Wait 3 months.

& that's if you can manage to find a VPN service that works....

Kayo are quite diligent when it comes to blocking VPN services.

Interesting conversation, I follow a number of threads on the Aussie Whirlpool forums, and one of theirs's is much the same as they discuss deals for Foxtel. If you're interested it's here - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3604w2l3?p=417

@demeter23 just to clarify, did you have Sky and wanted to leave and they offered you that deal, or were you a new customer? I just spent a frustrating nearly hour on the phone waiting to speak to someone, asked for retentions, they said new sales don't go to retentions and put me through to sales, who said they can't offer me anything other than 1 month free, and when I suggested I speak to retentions as that is how others had gotten good deals she refused and said only sales deals with new customers. Then offered to put me through to customer service. Got transferred there, and got a recording saying they aren't available, check the website, and it hung up on me.

Right now I feel like telling Sky they can go get a big dog up them.

Hey.  Yes, existing customer for around 16 months.  I had the 12 month deal through Andy, then negotiated 4 months discounted sports.  When that was up I rang them to see what they could do.  Initial person said nothing and referred me to retentions, who offered me the 12 month deal as per my earlier post.

I just tried ringing Sky and after about a 40 min wait managed to get through to their Retention Team.

Basically got told to call back on Monday (May 2) as it sounds like they will have a heap of new offers available that they can only dish out and I'm sure I heard her say new channel packs? I know through surveys Sky like to send out they were seeking feedback on different channel pack ideas e.g putting all the kids channels into their own tier so hopefully this becomes a thing.

Also heard mention the new Sky Box is out August or September.

Man, that's really annoying. I'd be interested to hear what they offer you. If they had told me I might have waited, rather than sign up for a no terrible but not great deal either.

Didn't get much of a deal in the end, I dropped Sky Sport and lost Soho in the process but they gave me 10% off the entertainment add-on plus 1 month free for 12 months so it's costing me about $4 extra a month

Recently dropped Sky after being a loyal customer for 18 odd years.

Wasn't offered anything much to tempt me to stay,  just questions on why I was leaving.

Had the full package, and wasn't getting value for money since I got Starlink & now I could view streaming.

Saving $70 a month and not missing the rubbish programming.

Much happier.
