That's another good example of their inflexibility.

I get what you're saying re needing a platform, but I would like to think Sky would maybe look at their plans, listen to their customer feedback and possibly say "a partial subscription (ie, Sports only) is better than no subscription at all" - if that makes sense?

Chatted today to see if I could get my $80 bill down somewhat, first guy closed the chat as soon as I asked about dropping my spend, and the second guy sent me canned responses nothing to do with what I'd asked, and then when I insisted I wanted to drop my spend said he would get someone from retentions to make contact within 72 hours. It didn't exactly blow my socks off. I expect this may be the last lot of interactions I have with Sky.  Their product is superior in many ways, having tried a few different ways to consume sport in the last 6 months, but it's not good enough to warrant the price PLUS the lack of flexibility.

I just called 0800 getsky I think it was (whatever the 0800 number is) asked to speak to the retentions team, told them I wanted a cheaper deal for 12 month contract and had a discount within 20 mins.

They already sell sports only on sky sport now

You could see things were starting to get shaken up with the previous CEO, that replaced that dinosaur John Fellet, more channels were starting to become HD etc

But since he left and replaced with whoever the current CEO it just seems like status quo has returned, no channels becoming HD, same average selection of channels that just repeat the same shows all week and focusing on a set top box very few people probably want?

Be wary of what customer services do for the black friday free new sky box deal as they claimed the deal is only for customers who have been with them for 20 years or more.. i threatened them with fair trading act as it doesnt mention this on the FAQ or T & C and threatened to report to consumer NZ.. they quickly changed their tone and offered the switch for free for the new sky box.

That CSO is clearly way off base. The below two quotes from the FAQ explicitly state anyone with an active sky sub from before 20 November is eligible.

Who is eligible for this offer?

Anyone who is an active Sky customer with a Sky Box or Sky Pod in their home before 20 November.

Can I get this offer if I’m just joining Sky for the first time?

As long as your Sky account is active before the 20 November, you can accept this offer.

Out of interest, has anyone had a Telemarketer call them in the past year or so offering a 12 month 50% off deal? I wouldn't be surprised if this has been stopped.

..I can't watch in every room without additional cost. I only want to watch in one room at a time, but I want to be able to watch where ever I want inside my household.

My fix for this is to use the Sky Go Addon for Kodi (which Geekzone won't let me link to because it contains a "bad word"!) installed on my Fire TV.

Basically the only way I'd consider staying tbh.

Once the Supercars and F1 are done, it's back in the box and thanks very much.

Could there be a case for misleading advertising if you cant get sport without basic? So the price advertising for sport should include basic?

Im thinking of dropping sport as with family and life I dont really watch much anymore

All their sport advertising has the disclaimer saying you need Sky Starter on it, so probably not.

Have gone for the free new box, usually use Sky Go anyway :)

Hmm I've been offered 25% off to stay.

I am quite torn. I really like Sky's Sport for it's fast forward and rewind function, which is far superior to any streaming product. The picture is good, and NZ commentary on NZ games.

Stan is arguably a better picture, and a better overall package, and is considerably more flexible in terms of where and how I watch.

Can't justify both.

With our bill having leapt up by almost $15 this month, I just had "the chat" with Sky. Someone from the retention team will call me back, ostensibly.

I don't have a problem with a reasonable increase, but this is about 25% in one go. That can't be down to wages or technology, given the limitations of the "new" box in our lounge. Not keen to pay a 21st century month subscription for a 20th century product.

Stay (or not to stay) tuned.

It was a bit of a gong, but eventually got someone from retention on the phone. Aside from our bill increasing around 17% in January, she indicated it was scheduled to increase again in February. After some discussions, our bill will have gone up around 12%. It's a 6 month no obligation term: after 6 months, discounts to end.  Regardless, combined with the "new" box's awful guide UX, we will probably ditch them at that time.

Does anyone know how much the rental / holding package is these days? Considering it as our bill keeps going up. It appears all mentions of if have been removed from their website. I asked via live chat and was told to phone the 0800 number. Do they even still offer this?
