We've said it before, Sky NZ is pushing customers towards its inferior hardware. If there is no Black Friday offer from Sky Sport Now this year, my monthly price would go up from $25 to $41.67. With catchup only going back 6 hours instead of 24 and patchy on demand uploads, it's not tempting.

If there are no offers, I might try some overseas providers for a month. They will cost more than $41.67 but they offer improved picture quality including some 4k, improved sound. I would try Kayo but I can't get around the need to have an Australian mobile number to sign up.

If it doesn't work out, I can return to Sky. I am not losing out much if there are no offers.

Kayo is a non-starter. Even once you get around the need for an Australian mobile number they are very aggressive at knocking down VPN and DNS servers. Most services now have given up on trying to support Kayo.

Sky for all its faults is the really the best 'one stop shop' possibly globally for all sports. Most other countries are fractured among a number of providers.

I whole heartedly agree with this statement. I have no problem with what they provide, just how they choose to provide it. Their model is out of date with consumer expectations.

okay, so off the slim chance that SKY Exec's read this, what are your consumer expecatations?

ill go with mine,

cant purchase just the one show/event - for non PPV,

regular sub requires basic rubbish channels that some dont want - some just want sky for sport.

apps dont support UHD/4K resolution.

what have you got to add?

Mine is quite simple. Just copy Kayo.

I was gambling on no black friday deal this year so we signed up with Sky Broadband, starter and Sport to replace SKY Sport (later) Now.  The loading time on SSN was just ridiculous.  Overall, it ends up costing us only a couple of dollars more compared to normal pricing of SSN and our old bradband price, so the Starter channels are a bonus.  A bonus that we dont watch,  so if there was a way to pick and choose the channels that you do want to watch that would be good, the way it is organised now is annoying with starter channels that people dont even watch and why are all the news channels in an "Entertainment package"?

Edit: One feature that we will miss is the "Picture in Picture" on SSN which only exists in the website version and not the app or normal sky channels.

Doing your best is much more important than being the best.

Full event replays available immediately after the live broadcast has finished and available to watch for at least 7 days after the broadcast.

As someone who tried to watch the RWC on Spark Sport, I can most definitely attest to the fact it certainly wasn't available immediately after the games.

It may have changed later on, but it didn't initially.

Having said that, It would be good if it did.

Certainly did later, the English Premiership was always ready to go as soon as a game finished.

Interesting as they're about to change their servicing satellite shortly: https://archive.ph/HswyQ

Here's another way that Sky's streaming offering is out of date. It's basically just an internet stream of their linear broadcast channels with limited on demand replays. Other platforms (like Kayo) offer live tiles. If there a 35 live events on currently then you can watch any one of them live. Sky Sport Now only has the 11 channels so that's all they can broadcast live. The rest of the events need to be watched on delayed coverage.

And my MySkyHDi just failed its signal test for channel 888.

Would not be at all surprised to be told that I must change decoder to get the new satellite feed.

I will be most unpleased.
