Got technician coming out Wednesday, as the room I want to remove decoder from is one that powers dish.

Took a bit of explaining that if I cut power to decoder in back room, lose signal on front one.

They said if not a Sky fault I'll get charged, it was set up from day one that way so see what happens.

Sounds like they now set decoders up so they are independent of each other.

Had it for movies and SoHo, though at most only 1 or 2 programs on SoHo at once so not subscribing to it for 2 programs and Sky on Demand is sub par quality for catch up.

Movies selection all right, but get better quality streaming services and AppleTV, no movies logo on screen, 4K in some cases and a bit better power in sound, so would rather put $25 towards those options, and Vodafone TV on freeview (lots can't record but being a shift worker the 3 day catch up suits me fine)

Just need to keep one decoder as others in house need me around to start Netflix plus they take more then 3 days to watch some stuff.

Once complete that'll halve around $50 monthly bill.

Probably just needs to have the Coax cable connected to the correct port on your LNB or splitter if there is one in the ceiling. Some will only pass power on the one port so that may also be the issue?

I wonder if you might get charged for that if that's all it is.

You should be able to sort the signal issue fairly easily. You'll have an F type spliter, which will only provide power pass from out of the outputs. If I run into similar issues at family members places, I generally just replace with a splitter that supports power pass across all ports.

Does it cause a problem if two devices are trying to power dish at same time?

Once taken one back doesn't matter, I guess I'm a bit nervous at going into the ceiling.

As others have said it could be the splitter only supports DC power pass on one port, or it could be that the STB you want to remain has LNB power turned off.

It will be the splitter. LNB power supply is set to on in the decoder.

I poked my head into the ceiling, the cable runs below some pink bats, and there is electrical cable for the lights as well.

I don't feel comfortable trying to find where the splitter is, think it'll be better to be $90 out of pocket then risk something going wrong in ceiling.

It'll pay itself off in 4 months, plus I'll still try and argue that they set it up so it needed the second decoder to be connected for other to work.

All done, Sky has another decoder to give to someone else now, or store somewhere.

Their building has shut down in Christchurch, but luckily I asked for the address on phone where to return.

It is almost across the road from old Sky building, but place isn’t Sky, they just accept return equipment

Looks like my account hasn’t be charged for the installer to change splitter, as it’s in credit.
