Can I use the new chromecast with google tv device to cast skygo from iPad to Tv?

Im current sky set top box customer but still waiting for sky customer services to answer my email from 10 days ago so hoping someone here already knows

The skygo online guide says to use Chromecast Gen 3 or ultra.

thanks in advance

Not too sure what's the difference between Google TV and Android TV with respect to Chromecast but in general Sky Go works with any Android TV built-in Chromecast.
It does work with my 5yr old Android-based smart TV without any issues.

You can easily see if you can connect when you tap cast icon on top right corner to open a list of nearby Chromecast devices.
Note that you need to enable bluetooth to discover nearby Chromecast devices in the first place (Sky Go app will ask you that question upon first time install).

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that reply. I don’t have any chromecast device yet.Trying to work out what I need. I contacted sky tv but got a few waffley answers as I think you just get a general customer services person. They are saying that skygo only supports gen 3 chromecast device or chromecast ultra device.

I have a 4K tv so would buy the ultra as that supports 4K whereas the gen 3 doesn’t ..except they don’t seem to be on sale any longer. Looking at specs I can’t see why the new chromecast with google tv wouldn’t work but was hoping someone here maybe actually using one of the new devices with skygo

could confirm before I go and waste $110

cheers

I reckon Chromecast for Google TV is a fairly new device, at least on NZ market, so Sky help desk may not have that knowledge yet.

Don't see any reason why it should not work if the device is the next iteration (4th gen.) falling under the same class of Chromecast devices as Ultra and 3rd gen.
Chromecast connection protocol is universal and Sky Go must use it as otherwise you won't be able to connect at all.

I have an ipad Pro, Chromecast with Google Tv (brought from Aussie 2 years ago), tv with built-in Chromecast and an android phone. Pretty much all your combinations. The Skygo app can be flakey from any. The worst can be android or iPad. But it does work and the picture on my OLED tv is very very good. I find it best to often initiate the session from the main area and then go to the channel in Skygo. If I do it the other way (ie to channel then try) the Chromecast symbol sometimes does not appear. I recently changed my android phone (Huawei to Oppo) and have found the new phone better so it may be phone age.

TLDR most combinations should and will work but sometimes the Chromecast symbol at a channel level can be missing.

Thanks Quinny. Yeah I have same combination as you of iPad and android phone. Most probably will cast from the phone.

Ive been watching  1 game of  sport on the iPad whilst having the main game on the big screen…having noticed any issues but will try your advice.

thanks again for taking time to reply.
