Ihave a Panasonic DMR -EH57 DVD and Panasonic TH-42PV70AZ television. Everything was working fine until I had Sky installed. It is the standard Sky box(DS230NNZ silver).

Installer connected cable from VCR SCART on Sky to AV1 In on TV.
Have HMDI cable from "1" on TV to HMDI AV Out on DVD.
RF cable from RF Out on DVD to the TV.

I can watch DVD's or previously recorded programmes.

Can not record anything

Do have a spare SCART to SCART cable.

I have a similar DVD recorder to you (just a later model). So the following should work,
Connect the SCART VCR on the sky box to the SCART AV2 IN on the DVD recorder using your spare scart-scart cable.
Change the existing SCART to TV lead over to the SCART TV socket on the Sky Decoder.  That is the socket the installer should have used in the first place as it allows you to control the volume to the TV with the sky remote, the VCR socket does not.  In the DVDR setup menu make sure you have the same sort of signal type is selected (composite or s-video) for AV2 in and on the sky decoder.
To record Sky the DVDR channel will be AV2.
Sky can still be viewed on the TV on AV1 as you do presently.

Thanks, have connected as recommended.

In the DVD setup/connection have AV1 Output as Video and AV2 Input as S Video.

I have no manual for the Sky decoder, so not sure if I am mean't to be checking something.

On the DVD do I need to go into Tuning menu and run auto-setup restart to tune the Sky channels?

Hopefully, getting close and thanks for helping.

In the Sky decoder configuration menu (the spanner)

select scart set up

Under TV SCART Setup select Composite (unless your decoder-TV scart cable is s-video or component) then push enter.

Under VCR SCART Setup select S-Video then push enter.  It will ask if you want those settings (yes).  If you don't get a picture then set both the recorder and the decoder to Composite.

You do not need to scan for Sky using the recorder tuning menu, you just have to select AV2 when you are programming a recording.  What is selected with the Sky remote will determine what is recorded.

You should be able to see what the recorder is 'seeing' by selecting hdmi1 on the TV and then using the recorder remote select AV2 (input select).
