Got an Onkyo HTS3105 a little while back and i'm getting MySky next month.
My question is to do with the sound output of the MySky hdi box, and the actual format of the sound.
Sicne the normal sky box is only stereo the 5.1 system soiunds pretty crap and onyl on some channels do you even notice the sound out some speakers.
Is every channel on MySky 5.1? Are any? Will I need to buy an HD ticket to have the 5.1 signal?

Thanks guys

Can only get tv3 in 5.1 without hd ticket. Then only at present few programs are 5.1 so for most of programs on the dobly sound track will get sound left and right front speakers only.

Can switch to second sound track when watching live (i.e. not recorded program) but then sound will be the same as your current one.

With HD ticket currently sports 1 and 2, movies 1 and movies great have dobly sound track.
If program not in DD5.1 same as above, I've  had sky movies on,  probably over half are 5.1. Found on some movies makes the enjoyment a lot greater, not been into sports big way so can't comment on them.

Yeah we dont have movies just sport. So I guess MySky won;t make a huge difference judging by what you said?

not much in proper 5.1 on Sky Sport. Nothing from overseas seems to be in 5.1, but the Warriors and All Blacks games seem to be in 5.1 usually.

I asked Sky why this was, and I got a totally useless generic fob off answer.

Nice. But will you need an HD ticket to get 5.1 on SS1 and SS2?

Those shows that are on DD5.1, I'm pleasently surprised how good the mix is.

The only dissapointing thing is that you can only get the 5.1 mix via the optical cable and not over HDMI. Just another crazy Sky config item, which completely "dumbs" down the HDMI technology!

Its not just Sky. I don't know of any STBs that do 5.1 over HDMI. I believe its all to do with the chipsets used.
