Some other sites are reporting this in their forums but I cannot find any official confirmation. Does anyone have any confirmation (e.g. link or letter from Sky) to verify this?

I heard that date from somebody a while back but can't confirm it.

I know the shutdown period was schuleded over a 6th month period from the end of August with the last transmitter being shut off at the end of January.

Hi tstone,

Yes, sbiddle is correct. The first letters went out on 30th June announcing that "We have decided to close down the analogue UHF network .............. This will take effect in your area on 31st August 2009."

They are sending more letters out every month giving two months notice with the last "areas" to be shut down on 31st January 2010.

When I saw the first letter (a customer showed it to me) I rang the local Sky office to ask for two weeks grace but they didn't know anything about the letters! A call to Customer Services in Auckland confirmed it, then it took about 4-5 more phone calls to get them to grudgingly delay the "cut-off" by two weeks.

Don't we all love Sky!

Cheers,  Wild Bill.

Hamilton, NZ.

Wonder what happens to Trackside when Discovery is pulled on UHF. Does it then become 24 hours as it is on Sky at present or will there just be a test pattern there saying to subscribe to Sky for after hours viewing??

Trackside is owned by the NZ Racing Board, so I guess they decide what to do.  As to who owns the UHF frequency they use, i'm not too sure.

We got a letter in the mail a couple of days ago offering us a free Sky Digital Install and a years worth of the basic 44 channels + 4 sport channels for the same monthly price as the UHF service.

It is getting installed next week :)
