Just had a quote to install 3 SD sky channels in a 16 unit motel $6,458.00 for the install and $600.00 per month for 3 channels.
WoW just as well I was sitting down when I read the quote!

Hi, does that include cable reticulation out the units or is a suitable/acceptable cable and taps already in place.

You may find the monthly costs more attractive (significantly more cost but greater customer appeal) if you put a STB in each unit especially if you live in a poor FTA reception area.

I presume this quote was provided by Sky Business, you can get anyone to install all the gear and just have Sky business turn up on the day to put the three boxs in an activate them, I do quite a number of motels on this arrangement.

Sky Business was adamant that you needed an approved (by Sky) installer and would not accept anything less.
There is already a cable run with taps to each unit as One, Two, 3, prime and Trackside comes from one antenna.

The price for a STB in each unit is unbelievable, $600 per month for 3 channels and $22.00 per month for each additional channel, including free to air channels 1 2 3 prime etc etc...

Being a Motel I Have to have Sky in ALL units, that rule does not apply to Hotels.

Sounds like Sky trying to drum up business, as I say I am not a Sky approved installer, but have installed a number of Motel setups for this purpose, Sky have turned up seen whats there obviously happy its up to standard, plug their boxs in and on there way. You are already supplying the reticulation cable, what stops you supplying more of the infrastructure assuming its up to standard.

This would mean motels could have 10+ STB's?

Crappy system imo, its too bad you couldnt setup some kinda of better distribution system. Eg in mediaportal possible to do a TV Server with multiple cards and then many clients to easily distribute it. Obviously you wouldn't use mediaportal for a commercial installation, but a more suitable similar solution.

A PC(s) can be setup, but it is not in their interest to do that as it means they need to develop and support custom PC installations. Much better for them to use a STB which comes with a warranty and is no different to support than for a residential customer.
