My mother-in-law has been complaining aver the past weeks or two about her 2 month old SGS4 getting real hot.   I told her to take it back  to Telecom and get them to check the battery that it wasn't one of the bulging ones.   It was OK.  She mentioned this to a friend if hers who has the same one and it does it as well.  I seems to be when certain apps are bing used.  In the case of her friend it is a game Candy Crush   in MILs case it when she is using  apps like PlaneFinder, ShipFinder and NZ tides.  I suspect all of these want set location services on or the GPS chip.

Anyone else gotten a SGS4 and does it get real hot when using apps??

Depends what you mean by "real hot", but certainly they get a little warm to the touch when under sustained heavy use.

Yeah, mine certainly gets warm using some apps. Wouldn't say real hot though.

The feed back from MIL and her friend is real hot but as we know hot is subjective.

Thanx for your feed back.

Mine used to get really hot (as in uncomfortable to hold), when pandora and navigation was going at the same time.

But mine also had the bulging battery issue.  Haven't tested it since.

Just an update to this.  The M-i-L has come up for Easter and bought the fone with here.  When she bought it she got a heavy rubber type case with it.   I bought her a leather wallet case and the heat problems have gone. Guess the rubber like case  must have been acting like an thermos and not letting the heat out.
