Hey ya,

So here is the story; I am looking to get a new handset. Currently I have a Sony Xperia Active (yeah yeah blah blah old slow whatever; it has been great for me because it is small enough to fit in pocket while running/riding for GPS tracking, and is waterproof so I don't need to worry about sweat/rain/etc). Am looking to get something which is also a smaller/compact size so that I can stuff it into my pocket of my running shorts, but is also a bit more 'current' so that I can use it for checking email/and other random bits and pieces for work...my current one does email/etc but it's just a tad small for doing anything than real basic stuff....and I don't really want to sink a bucket load of cash, so thinking something with a max of 500isssshhhh.

Here is the catch - I need to get it from JbHifi, as I have some vouchers that need to be used there. makes it a pretty difficult task I rekon. I wish I had grabbed a Z3 Compact when they were on special around Christmas for just under $500. So from what I can tell it looks as though it is either an S5 mini or a Z3 compact assuming I can get them to drop their pants on the price a little/lot.

Does anyone else rekon I should be considering anything else from JB?

Cheers

Absolutely the Z3 Compact, based on your requirements.

Original Motorola Moto-X? Very nice phone and reasonably compact for $499.
Otherwise Z3 compact is on special there, but still $700.

hmm resounding clarity so far; just a shame about the price...was sort of hoping you would all be saying "stuff the Z3 Compact, there is this awesome phone for 2 hundy less which is way better" *sigh :P

If they still have a Z1 Compact in stock you might consider that an option?

Whats wrong with the original Moto-X I linked to before? Or the Moto-G 4G for $339,  Both have water resistant coating and are smaller and lighter as well as being reasonably current. Either would easily do the job you want them for.

Just an idea if Jbhifi is limiting your options.

Put it on trademe for little less - yes you might have to lose a little doh at start

But when you have cash in the open market, you can buy anything , and at times 20-30% off noel / jbhifi pricing, so you make up your loss there . win win.

let us know how you go.

The Moto-X is a bit on the large side for this experiment :) The Moto-G could be an option; although not too sure about the design of it - looks rather old :\ hmmm but certainly worthy of consideration - thanks!

Yeah that's an idea; but it's a combination of 2 gift cards (one JB one and one Westfield one) so the concept of selling them both on quite quickly gets into the can't be arsed basket :)

Fair enough, I really like the design personally, but you are the one spending the money so its got to suit! Bear in mind that the First gen X is only about 1mm bigger in each dimension than a Z3 compact. The Z3 compact is still a big phone, but much more manageable than some of the new breed with 5+ inch screens.

One more for the Z3 compact. That phone is totally worth what you pay for it.

I kind of wish I also got one when they were $500, but now I will wait for a z4 compact.
