Being device agnostic, I had already decided my current Note 4 is my last Exynos device, and the way Samsung are moving, most likely my last Samsung device.

I put this under handsets as it seems a Samsung thing rather than an Android thing but if not then move it.

This is definitely quite an interesting read.
I didn't read any of the linked articles, but read the main article. I will however be digging more.

I am looking at purchasing a new device soon, coming from an iPhone, looking at an Android.

My selection was basically narrowed down to a Nexus 6P and potentially a Samsung S7 Edge+ variant when it was avaliable, but one of the main things that put me off Samsung was of course, the lack of support with custom ROM's etc. and given that the word on the street is Samsung will be using their Exynos in the new S7, I may very well not go with a Samsung for this reason.

I hadn't realize the sh!t storm that had brewed over a couple of the issue raised in the article, in particular the Superbrick.

Samsung do have some cool features on their phones, but to me, having OS support beyond 12-18+ months for a phone that carries a heavy price tag is quite important to me, and I would like to not have an OS that has essentially been hacked and reverse engineered to work on the phone, which is why I am now leaning more towards the Nexus device, or essentially, something other than Samsung.

Thanks for posting that link!
