Hey guys,

My honeymoon with my IPAQ was short lived. Sure I was browsing the web in my car while driving on the highway. And ok…ok, that was me at work on msn messenger in the cafeteria.

But now I have a strange problem. My email outgoing doesn’t seem to want to work for domains outside of my own!?

My ISP is Sympatico. And I used my POP and SMTP settings that I use on my desktop to get my email off my compaq (3870). The only problem is that it seems to work flawlessly for sympatico emails. I can receive all my emails but I can only send out to sympatico emails. If I try another email with a different domain (ie. hotmail) it says, "Invalid message recipients: your message blah could not be delivered to the following invalid recipients.

Notes: This only happens if I email ppl without a @sympatico.ca at the end. Works fine if they do.

So if anyone knows what may be the problem please give me a shoot...let this honeymoon last a little longer!!

Thanks,

Ron

Some ISPs block smtp access from outside their networks to avoid relaying, sometimes used for spam sending.

Your carrier probably will have a smtp server available for these cases. I use Vodafone NZ and they have smtp.vodafone.net.nz so people using GPRS can send messages.

Thanks freitasm,

Interesting, but isn't it strange that I can email all my fellow domainmates (sympatico.ca)? Do you know of any work around solutions? For example the SMTP and POP settings for hotmail? Or using my GPRS phone for emailing?

Theres got to be a way to send emails out to ppl other than those w/ sympatico.

grr...I can probably use a email program on my computer at home and email it first, and then have it sort b/w users and re-email everyone...but that sounds messy and redundant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ron

if you are using your gprs connection thru vodafone you can set up your incoming mail server as your details from your isp as normal, but use the outgoing server address of smtp.vodafone.net.nz
