Gave wife my old Lumia 520 when I got my 640.... she dropped it in water.....  gave her a Samsung S3 .... she dropped it last night onto concrete floor, screen cracked to hell.

So now looking for a new phone for her, around $100 mark, prefer 1GB RAM, and 8mp camera.... possible ? And via a mainstream provider (Warehouse, 2D, Noel Leeming etc) so we can pickup tonight or tomorrow.

Android or Windows - she uses it as camera, phone, SMS, Facebook.

TIA

Huawei Y6 Elite has been $125. If you are happy to have it locked to a telco you can pick it up for $97 - 99 in the past few weeks. (Warehouse & Harvey Normal)

PBTech have the Huawei Y6 Elite for $129, Warehouse Stationary should price match providing you can show them that the local PBTech store has it in stock, and the PBTech website is good for doing that. last time I did this they gave me an extra 5% off, this was a few weeks ago, but not sure what their official policy is.

Yep, I picked up one for temporary use, pretty hard to recommend it to anyone for daily use after that.

Honestly the specs aren't all that bad, I just suspect the software is not at all optimised. Also with only 4Gb of internal storage it get fulls very quickly.

you really need to go to the Chinese brands, you can really get a great phone for around $100.

Depends on how demanding on th ehpone she is going to be.  I managed to get one for about $90 from NL pre Christmas as a gift for a teenager, and it's been great as a first smartphone, for that price

I know someone who got the Samsung J1 for $100 on special at NL a few weeks ago, and find it good. I have tried it and it is okay as a basic android, and runs lollipop. Has an OLED screen too. Is a bit slow at loading apps, but if you aren't used to a super fast new phone, you may not find it too bad. But anything in this price range is full on compromises. I think it is quite similar to the s3, and not as slow as my s3 was, althoughthe screen and camera aren't as high res, and only 8GB of storage, but it looks like it accepts a SD expansion card.

Don't some of those just have plastic screens?
