Is there anyone that has a nokia 3205 on telecom that can download ringtones from polyphonicringtonez.com? cause i can get as far as previewing the ringtone but then there is no option for me to save it to my phone?
Easiest way to get ringtones on a Nokia with infrared is to use PC Suite via infrared. I have downloaded about 100 different midis, and used about 30 as ringtones. Its free and its easy. (The PC Suite for 3205 requires XP, but you can still use an older version of PC Suite on Win98SE for uploading ringtones, you just wont be able to use Outlook Sync and a few other features).
Hey thanks Disenchanted... sorry but i have no idea what that is you were talking about... can you explain or direct me to a link so i dont feel like such a dumbass hehe! thanks for your help though! is your fone telecom or vodafone though?
Yes, the PC Suite Software will do pictures to and from the phone, and will work over infrared.
My phone is a Telecom 027 CDMA. However, what I have described is applicable to either 027CDMA or 021GSM.

"The Ultimate in Personalization"
After seeing Nokia announcing its "upcoming" PC Suite software for months, I wondered how hot that free application was to be. Now that the result is here, I'm stunned! The "PC Suite" includes every personalization feature we love: compose ringtones and transfer them to your phone in a snap or even use any midi file and convert it to a ringtone; import bitmap graphic files and convert them to group graphics or picture messages. You can even capture screenshots of graphics and nokia logos found on the web, crop them and convert them to black and white using any graphic editor then load them into the PC Suite and you're up with as many free nokia graphics as you want.
Of course, the program also includes data management features. You can add or change contact entries, manage caller group associations and, with the included "Nokia content copier", you can litterally backup all of your phone's data! And where lots of manufacturers sell such a software and forces users to buy a data cable to use it, Nokia offers it as a free download on its web site and it can be used either with a data cable or through your phone's infrared connection, provided your computer is so-equipped. Clearly, I see the Nokia PC Suite as another small but significant Nokia revolution. By loading most of its phones with the ringtone function years ago, Nokia launched the ringtones frenzy. Now, with the PC Suite, it makes it easier for everybody to do it themselves without having to deal with paid web sites, expensive data cables and commercial software. Wow!
sorry me again... how do i know if my computer has:
• An IrDA (infrared) port on your PC.???????
or how do i get a:
• The DKU-2 (USB) connection cable and a compatible port on your PC.
• The DKU-5 (serial) connection cable and a compatible port on your PC.
i have a compaq presario 2500 laptop
You will need to check out you own laptop for Infra red. The DKU-5 cable is actually a USB cable, nearly every "modern laptop" will have a USB port. This cable should be available at any Telecom store...or even Voda store, cause they use the same cable. The RRP is $199.95. If your laptop has infra red, you can save some bucks!
DSE.co.nz will sell you an IRdA adapter cheaper than you can get a genuine cable.
In my opinion, if you are not too tech literate, forget serial and go with USB, far less likely to encounter random errors when you know everything -should- work
I also see in another post that DKU-5 cables are readily available second hand on Trade me (www.trademe.co.nz) for aroung $40 there should be no worries with compatibility and software updates can be downloaded from Nokia web sites.
Hey thanks to everyone that gave me some help... hope i wasn't too annoying. i found the infrared port on my pc and have downloaded heaps ringtones to my fone. thanks disenchanted for your help!
im glad it worked for you. i spent ages getting it to work the first time. may all your ringtones be non-copyrighted and royalty free....
speaking of which, DRM in phones is a pain in the butt, if I u/g my phone I have to re download DRMed ringtones. the price we pay for 'freedom' eh ?
BTW for those who want to know, there are plenty of legal downloads on the net for ring/msg tones (obviously not well known music tracks), but if you want to keep it legal, there is still plenty of interesting stuff about.
I too have just bought the Nokia 3205 on telecom. I have identified that i do have an infrared port, and have (after a lot of searching) found the pc suite edition that is compatible with my phone and downloaded it. I have enabled my infrared port (i think!) and have tried to connect the phone to my laptop via this, but it doesn't recognise it as being there!! I dont know what i'm doing wrong and have been asking at the Dell forums too. Please help!! I'm starting to think that I will never get to make my own ring tones for free!
