I had my phone stolen a few months back and someone was advertising for the charger on the net, i've contacted the police and i'm putting together evidence it's mine. What should i use?

Did you report it stolen at the time and provide the police with a serial number or ESN? If not, then I'd say your chances of getting a result are very slim. My recent dealings with the New Zealand police have been less than positive, so I doubt that they'll go out of their way to help. Good luck, anyway, and it'll be interesting to know what the outcome is.

Just as a slight digression - if your handset gets stolen and you advise Telecom/Vodafone of the ESN/IMEI, are they usually pretty happy to block it? I'd be curious to know if anyone's had any experience with this.

I got the SIM blocked but i didn't know the Serial number. However the phone is impossible to find in NZ I only got it because someone from Korea sold it to me.

This Ad was in Dunedin (same as me) Looking for a charger for the phone because she didn't have one. The phone was the Same Colour as mine etc so I have reason to believe this is my phone.

I lost a GSM phone a few years ago and asked Vodafone to find it. At that time I had the IMEI registered with my account (I think you can call them and ask to).

A couple of days later they found someone was using the phone in Auckland. The user was actually on an account plan, so Vodafone contacted the user and asked for the phone back. He refused at first, but them they threatned of sending the police to recover it.

The phone was back in my hands three days later.

gms phones imei's are on the box and can be retrieved on the phone by entering *#06#
its usually under the battery too.
Without the box or the phone i think you may struggle. But i suppose in theory one would expect vodafone to log sim card numbers (not mobile numbers but this can probably be determined by then with your phone number) against imei numbers.

ESN telecom can tell you but if your phone is from korea then its unlikely to have been connected to the telecom network due to their closed off ways. I think the ESN for a CDMA phone will be on your box and under your battery cover also

I'd think that Vodafone would be able to go back through their records and check what IMEI's have been used with your SIM card. I can't see why they wouldn't gladly give you this information, it would be attached to your account in some way (though they'd probably have to get techos to look it up)

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.
