There is a fault with the 027 network either nationwide or lower north island (ive had conflicting reports).

Things which are working intermittently or not at all: (that I am aware of)

Prepaid not billing at all (dont count your chickens - you will probably be retrospectivly charged).

Caller tunes

Outgoing calls

Incoming calls going to voicemail

Voicemail notifications

Text delivery

Supposedly will be fixed by 10pm tonight.

Im in Central/East north island - would be interesting to know where you are if you are having problems (or otherwise)

Ah, that explains a few things.

My phone stopped sending and receiving texts today but I thought it was just my problem (My phone bugs out all the time)

It'll be interesting to see what happens with the prepaid charging thing because I know of about half the people at my school were calling everyone they knew because there was a rumour that boost mobile were having a "free calling day"

a day without callertunes. very sad :-(

sms has been taking 3 or 4 attempts most of the day... but it's been getting through
but, i did have 3 dropped calls which distracted me enough to step infront of a bus.. (can i blame telecom?)

luckily it was the 31st of the month, and most folks i know have used up their pile of $10 txt, so it was a quiet day.

now.. if it happened on the first - woah!

From stuff http://stuff.co.nz/stuff/0,2106,3298660a10,00.html

People may be laughing at Vodafones network being unable to handle 14 million SMS's in a day, I think this is a lot more embarrasing for Telecom not being able to handle a few more calls. After all how many more calls would have been made? I'm sure not every prepay user in the country was making free calls!

Heavy use caused Telecom's 027 network to crash yesterday, leaving some customers unable to use their mobile phones for several hours.

A delay in updating pre-pay billing on the 027 network led to some customers thinking they were making mobile calls for free. The resulting congestion meant some customers reported being unable to make and receive calls.

However, Telecom said the billing problem was only a delay, and customers would be debited for the calls they made.

Telecom spokesman John Goulter said a new piece of equipment installed on the network yesterday morning was faulty, triggering the problem. Calls made to and from 027 phones south of Auckland and north of Kaikoura were affected, he said. The fault affected Telecom's 500,000 027 pre-pay customers.

"When some customers have found their account balance did not change immediately after making a call they've gone on to make lots more calls, leading to congestion on the network.

"We're asking customers not to make calls if they're not necessary," Mr Goulter said.

The problem would be fixed overnight, he said.

It would require switching off the entire network for a few minutes, so Telecom was waiting tilltill the early hours of the morning, when usage was at a minimum.

little bird told me that vodafone don't send sms delivery confirmations, not because of a lack of the technology, but because their network can't handle the increase in traffic if they turn that on.

should I believe little birds?
